Shocked no one on Neowin is playing this. It's a great game that is completely team-play centric.

Things had been relatively tight as far as getting into the current beta has been - I found an account waiting for me *yesterday* after weeks and weeks of coming up empty.

My current system is under the current power curve; however, it's because my CPU is a first-gen Intel quad-core, while my GPU is the AMD HD5450, and it's still more the CPU than GPU.

I'm working on getting upgraded hardware-wise, and it's still a fun game to play besides my system being too wimpy. (And that is despite having a transport shot out from under me, and getting whacked by a tank - twice - in a hasty defense.)

So for the second time in as many weeks I've gotten an email saying I've been accepted into the beta for this game. And yet when I follow the instructions in the email there is no actual way to download the client. And a quick look through their forums shows I'm not the only one this has happened to.

Anyone else experience this and find a way to get the client to work?

planetside2.com/download doesn't work?

Nope. It just takes me to their front page.

I remember back in August many people had the same problem, but I can't remember how to fix it. I would upload the installer, but it would be better if you contact SOEs customer support @ http://help.station....tail/a_id/10404

Got 1 key for grabs, if anyone needs it.

first to reply here with a request, gets it.

I'm only handing out to active members, since last time i gave a key away,

it was a 1 post member who didn't even bother to say thank you, after getting the key.

(i wont be home for next next couple of hours, since i have to go to work today)

Well, I tried to get the Beta up and running but I keep getting

an "insufficient storage" error when it goes to patch. I've searched

the knowledge base at the SOE website but it had nothing, and there

are numerous complaints in the official forum with no answers.

I'm leaning towards avoiding this game all together.

  • 2 weeks later...

just joined, man, what are up with the land vehicles, like the quad bike? its so unresponsive and dull.... flying is not bad, gameplay is challenging so far

Not only that but whoever thought making the 1st person view the default on the quad should be thrown out an airlock :D (By the way you can press T for 3rd person view if you guys didn't know)

By the way, the loading times are looong

Define "looong". Played for 24 hours (according to steam) and didn't really noticed that the loading between spawns and even the initial loading of the game are anything special in the length department.

Especially with the size of the maps and the number of players on screen.

Are you playing on a crappy laptop?

Well, the time between spawns is usually 30 seconds for me. And no, its a gaming, sort of, PC, not a laptop

    • Not such a great deal, Ultimate, which gives you full 5080 features is $181.99 CAD per month, that's $2183.88 per year, I can buy the 5080 for $1809.99 CAD, then it goes up to $279.99 per month after the first billing cycle. Typical cloud rental, costs more than buying the hardware.
    • Wow, spoken like a true blind hater, you don't even provide arguments. Please, go check my comment above to @seacaptain and you'll find out why what you say doesn't make sense in this context...
    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
