Can't secure wifi connection when using WRT54GS in bridge mode.

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Yes, I tried to make the topic title as self-explanatory as possible.

When I setup my Buffalo router in bridge mode, it works smoothly enough but my connection is unsecured. I'd like to enter my router's firmware settings and give an SSID + AES key to the thing, but I just can't open the router page. The back of the router says that while in bridge mode, 192.168.11.100 should work but it doesn't. I also tried the other address, for the non-bridge mode (192.168.11.1) but that yields nothing too. I tried other random stuff like 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.2 and more but they do nothing either. 192.168.1.1 just leads to the page for my ethernet card/LAN/modem/whatever thingy.

So, how do I get to the router's page? Or any Connection Setup Wizard? I just want to secure the damn thing.

Help, please?

Buffalo router is not called wrt54gs, that is a linksys model number.

What is the model number of your buffalo router - are you not the one that put back the native firmware?

Do you mean you set it up in client bridge mode, gateway devices you normally put in "bridge" mode so that they do not do nat and are just "modems" -- if you have some wireless router that you want to use as a client bridge to some other wireless network then ok -- is that what your trying to do?

Once you place a gateway device into bridge mode - it would have little use of a wireless network.. Wireless should be disabled if you turned a gateway device into just a modem with bridge mode.

Hi!

Yes, I am the one who put back the native firmware. And, as you all predicted, I have now realized that Tomato is better. I'd love to put Tomato back in it actually. I downloaded the 7zip file but don't know which of the files it unpacks to install. I actually got my router name mixed up and tried uploading the two bin files for WRT-G54S. Of course the Buffalo firmware accepted them as invalid. Which file should I upload? The .trx file?

And, yes, my model number is WHR-G54S.

I'm trying to place my router in bridge mode because when I use it in "auto" mode (that's what the device calls the other mode), after some time I start getting DNS timeouts while surfing and pages don't load properly. This does *not* happen when I just plug in my connection via LAN, FYI.

Help, please? What do I do from here?

Well put tomato back on it then -- do you not understand how to read instructions?

"tried uploading the two bin files for WRT-G54S"

Did you NOT even bother reading the readme.html that is in the 7z you downloaded?

For the buffalo you run the whr_install.bat file and then yes it uses the tomato.trx file.

If you not going to take 30 seconds to read the instructions given to you -- your going to freaking brick it!

Upon looking in the manual I don't see any bride mode other than to enable WDS bridge -- which is HIGHLY Unlikely what you want to do.. This is for creating a mesh between other wireless accesspoints so that network is repeated over the wireless network and you do not have to connect the APs to the network with a wire.

So is this router currently your gateway? Or do you want to use it as a AccessPoint, you mention other linksys routers?

Sorry for the late reply. I had exams in college.

I tried to install Tomato. But I couldn't. I followed the instructions as closely as I could but the .bat file would never detect the router once I rebooted it.

I didn't read the manual at first because, for some reason, I was just incontrovertibly sure that my model number was WRT-G54S. Has that never happened to you? You're so sure of something (that's wrong) that you just don't bother reconfirming it?

Ok, here is the thing. When I used my router in the non-Bridge mode, it'd work smoothly for a while (even the Buffalo firmware page would load) but occasionally I'd get DNS timeout errors during surfing. I thought that using it in Bridge mode might not lead to this problem. (I don't know how I reached that conclusion. Another one of my stupid things, maybe.) I switched to Bridge mode and in the short span of time I used it that way, surfing was smooth but I could never secure the connection or go to the firmware's page. Which is why I turned to you people for help.

Now, I think I was utterly misguided in doing so and that I'm meant to use my router in the non-Bridge mode with my kind of connection. Anyway, I'm using it in that mode right now and after entering the values for Google DNS in my DNS settings, I don't encounter DNS timeout errors while surfing anymore.

So, for better or for worse, my original dilemma is solved and I can at least surf smoothly now. I'm really, really sorry for being such a doofus and asking such pointless queries. I can fully understand why you were so frustrated by the end. Thanks for all the help, though. Cheers.

    • Nothing kills CMF Phone 2 Pro's successor due to rising memory prices by Hamid Ganji Storage and RAM prices have been rising over the past year, leading to a significant increase in the cost of electronics for customers around the world. Many companies are now revising their plans for upcoming devices due to higher component costs and overall production expenses. CMF is the latest company to cancel the successor to one of its best-selling phones due to rising memory prices. CMF is a sub-brand of Nothing and focuses on making budget smartphones for growing markets. The brand launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro last year with some eye-catching specifications and an affordable price. While many customers may have been waiting for a successor this year, one of the company’s executives has announced that CMF will not release a new smartphone this year. And AI is to blame. As Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis announced on X, the company has been working on a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro, but with current memory prices, it cannot “build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price that makes sense for CMF.” So, no new CMF phone will be launched this year. Meanwhile, Evangelidis said the company still has several new products in the pipeline, including some in entirely new categories. He added that the Nothing brand will also continue launching new products through 2026. Budget smartphones are among the first victims of the surge in RAM and memory prices, as they have become more expensive to build. The sharp increase in memory costs could also reshape the traditional price ranges associated with budget phones. Apple CEO Tim Cook also recently said that price increases for some of the company’s products are unavoidable because RAM and memory have become significantly more expensive this year. Analysts estimate that the base price of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could rise to $1,399 due to current market shortages.

It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. • This got me thinking, would you rather a self driving car prioritise protecting its passengers or everyone else? I'd choose the one that keeps me and my kids safest. At some point, these cars have to make those choices already, don't they? Wonder if we have a way to find out what way they lean.
