Image dimensions not displaying in Explorer

Recommended Posts

It could be a registry problem, a missing or improperly registered DLL. Download this program and then compare what you see to the screenshot.

Also think about any programs you installed or updated recently. Do you use a codec pack or anything similar? Image viewer? MediaInfo?

No codec packs and I have this problem on a clean, brand new Windows 7 installation. File Type Registry Viewer displays the same result (PhotoMedataHandler.dll).

What did you use to remove the search box in Explorer?

Windows Search re-enabled, system rebooted, thumbnail cache deleted, the ratings, properties, dimensions still don't show up. :angry:

edit; I'm not the only one having this problem

For whatever extension you wish to see these details, merge the following reg file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\.jpeg]

"InfoTip"="prop:System.ItemType;System.Photo.DateTaken;System.Keywords;*System.Photo.PeopleNames;System.Rating;*System.Image.Dimensions;*

System.Size;System.Title"

"PreviewDetails"="prop:System.Photo.DateTaken;System.Keywords;*System.Photo.PeopleNames;System.Rating;*System.Image.Dimensions;*System.Siz

e;System.Title;System.Author;System.Comment;*System.OfflineAvailability;*System.OfflineStatus;System.Photo.CameraManufacturer;System.Photo.Ca

meraModel;System.Subject;*System.Photo.FNumber;*System.Photo.ExposureTime;*System.Photo.ISOSpeed;*System.Photo.ExposureBias;*System.Phot

o.FocalLength;*System.Photo.MaxAperture;*System.Photo.MeteringMode;*System.Photo.SubjectDistance;*System.Photo.Flash;*System.Photo.FlashEne

rgy;*System.Photo.FocalLengthInFilm;*System.DateCreated;*System.DateModified;*System.SharedWith"

And change .jpeg to whatever extension. Like .png, .jpg

The suggestion from this thread might help:

The simple solution is to edit the registry. Click on Start/Execute. Type in regedit. In HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT locate an image extension giving you problems. For example .gif or .jpg. Check if the PerceivedType value is present. If itsn't : right-click, new/string value. Name : PerceivedType. Value : image. Repeat this operation for all image types not working in explorer. Voila !

Not sure if it's the same problem in Win 7, but you can always try.
