iPod Nano 8Gb frozen black screen

Recommended Posts

So my dad brought his iPod nano 6gen or 7 gen (the touch one , i don't really know it as this is the first time i used it) , it was showing "ok to disconnect" and was stuck there , i plugged it to my pc and itunes said ver 1.2 is available so i clicked restore and update , it gave 1439 error and i read at places to use different USB ports and restart etc. Then i found this power + volume - button combo to reset , i did it , screen went black,,, and is still black since then , i left it to charge for an hour but no affect. Now i have connected it to my pc and its not recognized , as if it umm died ? :| Its merely 2 months old and was used JUST once :/

If the old recovery mode still works, make sure the Nano is plugged into your computer, iTunes is on and press Vol Up+Vol Down+Sleep/Wake until iTunes recognizes it - might take a few seconds (if it's still alive)

From memory, I haven't done that in a while.

u sure volume up and down and lock ? coz they say just (-) and power ,anyways will try. How can it possibly die :(

According to this; http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1372 it's worth trying out different USB ports too - perhaps those back of the computer if you're using the frontal ones.

Also other hints on that page.

i did check all of them , none worked :/ also how to delete the already downloaded firmware? coz it now doesn't redownload but uses old one

I'm afraid I don't have a Windows box to see where it downloads it if you're using one, perhaps someone else can give a hand there.

nevermind found and deleted those files , itunes says now i have 1.2 version don't know how :p so lets see restoring again

Navigate to the firmware and throw it on the desktop.SHIFT+Click Restore at the same time (in itunes). This should bring up a find dialoge. Navigate to desktop select it click ok. If you don't have the firmware, google it and download the .iswp and do the correct ipod. When it's done downloading, do the SHIFT+Click restore thing again and select what you just DL'd. I hope this Helps!!!!!!! Good Luck!

OH! Also! Reboot your computer! This may sound stupid but it works! Don't reboot! SHUTDOWN and turn back on. :) Try reinstalling itunes again too. you may have to add your media again (it's stored in your Music folder.)

Thanks yes i did restore 1.1 by downloading it from iosindex.com , but even 1.1 gave error . Alright i will uninstall itunes , shutdown turn on re install then shutdown and turn on and try and if it doesn't work it can GTFO to warranty :p

You really sent it out?. I'm having the exact same problem. I don't even know how it happened, I put some songs in it that weren't playing and then I tried restoring it to see if that fixed it, but now I can only turn it off or try syncing it (unsuccessfully so far). I'm also trying to format the disc via windows. I heart somewhere else people saying that insisting on the restore might work. Let me know what happens with you.

    • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
