Hit BBC One gameshow Total Wipeout has been axed, it has been confirmed.

Hosted by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram, the programme has run for four years and at one point averaged over 5 million viewers for the broadcaster.

However, the BBC today confirmed plans to end the series after one final run of the show.

"After four very successful series of Total Wipeout - and one series of Winter Wipeout - the BBC has taken the decision that the next series, due to transmit later this year, will be the last," said a BBC rep.

Ratings for the recent Winter Wipeout series fell to 3.85 million.

Total Wipeout is a comedy assault course-based gameshow featuring challenges including the Sucker Punch, the Cradles of Doom and the Big Red Balls.

Celebrities who have taken part in the show, which is filmed in Argentina, include Joe Swash, Joe Absolom, Danielle Lloyd, Dom Joly and Nicola McLean.

Yea, it was fun at first to watch.

The question is, what is going to replace it? Dancing on Ice or some similar pansy program.

I have to say I thought The Voice was absolutely brilliant the judges were hilarious.

Lets hope with the money savings they can bring the F1 back to the BBC full time in 2018. Unlikely... but we can hope!

It won't return to the BBC until we have a change of government, the Conservatives always put the BBC in difficult positions by restricting what they are allowed to do so they lose contracts to sky or other private TV.

They Government have a point though, why should a privately run company encounter difficulties by trying to outbid a torrent of state funding, the five year freeze on the license fee is a good move.

I stopped watching Top Gear probably about 18 months ago, when I realised the challenges were fake.

They'll never cancel Top Gear because it's one of their biggest revenue earners worldwide.
