Beneath A Steel Sky was really enjoyable. Great story and nice futurist locations. Has speech audio too, which not all point and clicks games have. Small development team, counted 48 people in the credits, compared to games now days.

I don't think Fallout is abandonware or in the public domain. It isn't legal to download a game if it's still has a rights holder and someone with still legally selling it.

Admittedly, not an expert on this. Does anyone else know what the situation is?

It's not "abandonware" or anything else either - it's still fully commercial.

Currently the IP is owned by Bethesda.
