Just replaced bluray laser in Fat PS3 and...

Recommended Posts

now I can watch CD's and DVD's fine (which i couldn't before). However, bluray games and movies still will not read at all.

Obviously they use a different diode, so it is possible that i was sent a faulty laser, however, there is one random plastic white piece on one of the rails that the laser runs on. I never took that particular rail off, so it must go on there somewhere, but it potentially goes on the other side of the laser (to where it is now, because it is sort of just hanging there, doesn't appear right at all). I happen to have a slightly different model PS3 to the one shown in all repair videos and guides, so i can't even see it on the pictures there. Mine has a black cover over the power supply, and you need to remove the power supply in order to get to the ZIF connector for the bluray drive.

Can someone shed some light onto what this plastic piece is, where it should go, and why i still can't read blurays.

Thanks.

I will provide pictures at some point if required (id need to pull the PS3 apart again to get them)

i fixed two fat ps3's by replacing the laser head. BOTH played cd's and dvd's but not games until the head was replaced. i forgot the plastic shim on one of them and it would only read games intermittently. got the shim put in on a second opening and it, along with the first, have been going great for over two years now.

i'm quite certain you MUST put the shims in.

When you're done - I want you to make me a sword of laser. I haven't a name for this yet - but the concept is quite revolutionary - and Im pretty sure nobody has ever seen something like this.

I am thinking lasersaber, or lightblade, or laserblade, Hell - even lightsaber - but thats kinda ghey
