ASUS A7N8X Series BIOS 1007 Final Released

Recommended Posts

For the A7N8X-X :

The only listed changes were memory compatability for like two companies :

1. Improve system stability with Hynix and PSC memory modules.

I thought, great, better memory compatablity...

Except it broke the support for my Crucial PC2700 sticks.

I loaded up the settings I had...and after restarting the computer I get a sudden reboot before XP finished loading. Unplug, discharge PSU, clear CMOS...

I changed the settings to something more conservative, still a reboot...

I had the idea that it was a memory problem, so I set the memory by SPD and still a BSOD.

Finally, I set the BIOS to completely default, asynch 133/166, and it is now running (as in, here I am).

****ing Asus.

BTW...memory compatability wasn't the ONLY thing they changed...they changed the way that the memory settings worked, as in I can't access certain settings the way I used to, and it locks one setting out completley.

**** Asus...instead of improving the (IMHO) already shaky BIOS they made it worse...on a FINAL BIOS to boot.

I'm going back to 1006.

Of course, your milage may vary.

Use ASUS LiveUpdate. There's nothing to be afraid of. (Y).

I AM using liveupdate. I keep getting disconnected from all 3 servers. I tried doing it the old fashioned way but couldn't get into any of the download sites. It shouldn't be THIS difficult to update a bios! :argh:

I'm able to download the bios file fine from here..

Which do you need?

I don't bother with using LiveUpdate to get the file, i just use it to install the bios.

I tried 1007 and i flashed back to 1004. For some reason with 1005, 1006 or 1007 my pc will crash in less then 1 min when i try to run prime 95 but with 1004 will run all day without problems. I don't get it because I am using Corsair XMS 3200 cl2 memory at cas2 3, 3, 7 and its fine with 1004. Well looks like i'll be waiting on 1008.

Ok, I am f'ed. I flashed the bios in the late afternoon, but did not restart until an hour ago. Well, I am totally screwed, my Windows can't boot at all, and when I tried to flash back to the previous bios, it frozed. Now, I am stuck with dead system. Bootguard is not working at all either... wtf? It says all the usually bios failed mumbo jumbo, and it says it detects my floppy disk, loading AWDFLASH... etc. But even when I load AWDFLASH onto the floppy disk, it still says load failed... WTF?!!? Somewhere help me here, else I would have to pick up a brand new board. Which is pretty bad... since I bought this board just 3 weeks ago.

HELP?!

slapnuts_ox : each BIOS really seems to treat memory differently...like what happened to me, there were practically NO settings which would allow my Crucial memory to boot...I was pretty ****ed after a while, so I didn't explore EVERY setting (as in, instead of giving more conservative settings, pushing the memory harder instead (hey, you never know)). At least Asus regularly releases BIOS (even if they don't work for everyone heh)...

desaul17 : a sucess story! what memory are you using that 1007 likes?

nomis_nehc : if you are brave, find someone with the same board, get their BIOS, boot into Windows, put your BIOS back in, flash it from Windows, and reboot. If you are not brave, either RMA the board to Asus or try badflash.com (I used them a year or so ago and was very pleased with their service).

you can still use the live update and a floppy - just dl the appropriate file, save to disk, when running the live update- use flash file from disk and point to it.. easy as pie. i did notice 1007 has the cpu interface shadowed (cant change it).. didnt see any performance increase from 1006.

Psy: can you elaborate more? This is where I am right now. I have made a startup disk, and put awdflash and 1006 onto the startup disk. I can actually get into the awdflash program now, but when it tried to auto flash, it says "Source File not Found" Am I suppose to be loading a certain version of the bios onto the disk? This is killing me. Oh yeah, I also tried to use a different version of awdflash that I found online, it'll actually start to flash, but right before it even gets to the first block, I will hear beeping and the system reboots.

More help please!!

This maintenance-focused release includes bug fixes, updated translations, and a range of safe enhancements. This release fixes a Windows security issue that could allow arbitrary file deletion during privileged cleaning (reported by Zeze with TeamT5). It also adds new cleaners (including a DNS cache cleaner, Claude Code, and Visual Studio Code forks), support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles, new deep scan options for developer directories like node_modules and venv, and safer, faster file shredding. All Platforms Added cleaners for Claude Code, DNS cache, and many Visual Studio Code forks. Added support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles. Chrome can now clean downloaded AI models. Deep Scan can optionally remove venv, __pycache__, node_modules, and .angular directories. Deep Scan is faster by skipping directories on the keep list. File shredding is safer, faster, and leaves fewer recoverable traces. Improved handling of cookies, symlinks, Unicode filenames, external processes, and configuration files. Improved Expert Mode warnings and long warning dialogs. Fixed crashes related to cleaner detection, invalid Unicode, and malformed cleaner data. Clipboard is now cleared automatically after shredding files via paste operations. Linux Added AppImage support. Added cleaners for Visual Studio Code, Codeium, Librewolf (.deb), Transmission (Flatpak), and Profanity. Improved Linux trash detection, including Snap-installed applications and mounted drives. Fixed Wayland root CLI issues and several Snap-related problems. Improved package dependencies, AppStream metadata, and desktop file handling. Fixed startup crashes when Python Requests is unavailable. Windows Fixed a security vulnerability that could allow arbitrary file deletion when cleaning with elevated privileges. Added %WindowsSystem% variable support. Improved clipboard clearing using native Windows APIs. Improved installer experience on unsupported Windows versions. Reduced installer size and improved application robustness. Fixed Unicode handling, filename anonymization, Git revision reporting, and splash screen stability. • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
