Even an i5 is better than the Phenom.

But when it comes to games, media, and other applications, other than multi-threaded ones, even an i3 destroys Phenoms

Alright thanks for your help I ended up going with the i5 ivy bridge K proccesor with biostar TZ77XE3 motherboard. woohoo gonna hold off on video card until i get more money though but its 3.4ghz quad core over my 2.4ghz due core! WOOHOOOO
