Yep, the only time I saw that software was preinstalled on gateway machines.

I actually downloaded it, probably using NeoPlanet.... ah, the memories!

Patch My PC is currently updating my system. Thanks for the link!

why in the hell are you giving this free advertising? It sucks! There is no way you can remove certain things and fix everything without sitting in front of the computer!

I use this program all the time, works great!

That post seriously feels like it's missing an /s tag

Just wanted to remind people about this app. I've seen been using it on almost every computer that comes into my office since creating this thread 5 months ago. It really is a godsend to be able to click update and walk away.

I've been using this program since you first made this thread and I continue to be impressed with it. Simple yet effective updating in a portable app.(Y)

Thanks for making the community aware of this program.

Today on my computers, I tested out the /s switch with the new adobe flash releases.

I added patchmypc as a scheduled task with patchmypc.exe /s which means patchmypc runs silently in the background, updates all the apps then closes.

I ran The GUI mode of patchmypc first and both Firefox and IE versions of flash were in red.

I closed it and ran the task with the /s and I watched the process patchmypc.exe in the task manager it was there, for about 1 min, then disappeared.

then I ran the GUI version again and everything was now green (up to date).

On 2 of my machines I set patchmypc to run everyday silently at 2am to keep the system current. I'll see how it goes.

So far I'm loving this. One question though--how does it handle those updaters that make you click through and accept license agreements and also try to install Google Toolbar or some other BS? Does it sidestep all that? Because if so, I will probably make love to this program at once.

As far as I know it only adds application to this app which support a silent installer option, meaning no user interaction. I'm not sure, so don't quote me, but most of the time the toolbars don't get installed. At least i've updated a lot of stuff with this app and never found any 3rd party toolbars got installed.

Take a look here, the question has been brought up. The thread link below is from a few months ago. He says "Auslogics Disk Defrag" is the only app which installs the ask toolbar, and he said is seeing if the installer gives the option of not installing it while in silent mode.

Ah, that explains why Adobe isn't on there. Heh.

Interesting that Java is, though. I can't even count the number of times I've had to uninstall the Ask toolbar and reset someone's home page because they mindlessly clicked through the Java update that does that. Heh, with this one I almost prefer the users who never update until I come around and do it, so I can opt out of that crap. I really lose respect for companies that stick their installers in there with the install boxes pre-ticked. (Yes, you too, my dear Google. As much as I like you, stop pushing Chrome and your toolbar out with everything. The browser already has a search bar that is set to Google for the provider. Don't be redundant, that's annoying.)

Which Adobe? All adobe's seem to be on there. Acrobat reader, Flash and air are all on there, and no toolbars get installed.

    • EA reached out to our reporter that mainly does gaming content and reviewed loads of other games, why would this be shocking to anyone? I admit maybe we were considered this time around because of the extra coverage UFC was getting and they wanted a broader audience for this release? IDK. I can tell you that we aren't paid to do the reviews, the fun part of it is (mostly) being able to keep what we review and giving an honest opinion on what we're reviewing.
