[Linux] Scanning Windows for malware

Recommended Posts

Hello, all;

I don't have much experience with Linux, but I believe it will be the perfect solution for a job I need to do.

My friend asked me to look at her Netbook because she has been having problems with it and believes it may be infected with some form of malware.

What I would like to do is create a bootable USB thumbdrive with Linux on it, with an antivirus program I can use to scan the Windows drive for any malware.

I want to boot to a USB thumbdrive in case there is malware which makes itself undetectable to Windows while it is running.

How can I do this? Would I be better off using something like BartPE?

Thanks! :D

Many Anti-Malware Programs offer services that can boot from CD or USB Stick, so you don't necessary need to Boot from Linux, for example Kaspersky:

or Avira Antivir

I downloaded the Kaspersky Rescue Disk (or whatever it is called), and created a bootable USB thumbdrive using the provided tools. It was super easy, and quick. I can't believe it's free! :D :D I'm in the middle of a full system scan on the netbook now. Thanks a million for the suggestion!!! :yes:
