Thanks. It's not really that hard once you get it all setup. In fact, upgrades are much easier with rolling-release distros.

Agreed -- takes a bit more effort to get started, but it's well worth it, refreshing change from kitchen-sink distros. I prefer BSD over Linux myself, but this one is actually pretty decent to work with. And amen to rolling updates.. the six month roll of the dice is just irritating.

Just follow along their wiki, it'll walk you through it, just keep in mind it'll drop you at a bare nekkid console once it's done installing. There's also easy instructions for the various desktops if you're going that route. It's one of the better documented distros, and the forum is pretty helpful.

Quite a few nice desktops here. Simplezz looks nice.

Anyway, still rocking Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity (which par from Compiz and some memory leaks, is functional to use)... I can't be bothered for the 12.04 upgrade and potentially deal with Nvidia driver problems like the 11.04->11.10 upgrade.

The drivers for me are actually decent. The box I have Ubuntu 12.04 on has an NVIDIA GT 250 if I remember correctly. I have compiz with wobbly windows on too. It's a nice little video card. I want to get another and SLI.

In the future if you do want to upgrade, I'd wipe and start from scratch. There's just too much that can go wrong :)

Your right, I should do a clean install. But its a pain when I want to get on with things without messing about with setups. Next time I will stick with the LTS me thinks.

Ha Ha. yeah the Linux install process is pretty bland. I usually stick with LTS unless it's a major change and all the reviews are good. I like your ubuntu screen (above) and your server though.

It will probably just be done within VMware. The only issue with that is trying to show how to set up wireless networks, but I can figure something out. Does anyone have specific requests?

Please make one for Virtualbox, with gnome shell 3 installation instructions. :)

      Browser vendors including Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Vivaldi have jointly written an open letter to Microsoft saying enough is enough regarding Edge being pushed on Windows users without consent.       Amen, they are a shady company... they modify my site to remove inline ads and then cry about subscribing to their services, a few things they "bravely" did in recent years: In 2020, Brave was caught automatically appending its own affiliate referral codes to URLs when users typed the web addresses of crypto exchanges (like Binance and Coinbase) into the address bar. Following significant backlash, the CEO apologized and the feature was disabled. In 2023, the company faced criticism after users noticed a paid VPN service was installed on their computers without their explicit consent. TOR Privacy Leak: In 2021, Brave's private Tor tabs were found to be leaking DNS queries to internet service providers, a flaw that was subsequently patched. Passive Cryptocurrency Donations: In early versions of the browser, Brave automatically collected user contributions and held them in a pool to be distributed to creators. If a creator had not signed up to claim their funds within a certain time frame, the process sparked criticism about where the money went.

      I think they still believe it but are realizing that those statements created massive backlash and impacted adoption. I personally think AI, if used regularly will give you back about 30% of your time if you are an “information” worker.
