Steam disabled me purchasing new games.....

Recommended Posts

I payed age of empires online with paypal and unfort when I bought the game the downloadable content did not get added to my account when I bought it database problem maybe? I contacted steam support and they took 5 days each time they wrote back and basically said to do whatever I told them I already did in my first email I sent them. I get fed up and just filled a report with paypal because I want my money back because steam support did not help me. Just goes to show even though it may be cheaper to buy games online you have a lesser chance of getting screwed over..... http://www.gog.com for me from now on.

Do you have a credit card tied to your PayPal account? If the payment went through and a chargeback occurred, then Steam automatically bans the PayPal account.

Read this if you're wondering what a chargeback is:

A chargeback, also known as a reversal, is when a buyer asks their credit card issuer to reverse a transaction after it has been completed. It is available only to users who make a payment funded by their credit or debit card.

https://cms.paypal.c...hargeback_guide

If you have a credit card, then check your account (transaction history, etc). Also, I strongly recommend being persistent with Steam support.

but he said he payed for it though!

The base game is free; however, the DLC bundle isn't. You can buy all the DLC in one bundle for $29.99 USD (see here). It should be obvious that the original poster bought that. And as far as I'm concerned, it isn't spam.

Why did you start this thread ?

You do not provide any information for us to help you. What did you try actually ? Did you check you CC and paypal account to see if the payment went thru. Did you get the confirmation email from Valve telling you the payment went thru ? Did you pay with a CC or bank account ? What Steam support actually told you ? What did you tell them ? Etc ... etc ... etc ...

Right now it looks like spam.

I know but why ?

If i would create a new rant thread here everytime i have a problem with a company i would be banned for flooding the forum. At least he should provide some informations as to why this situation is different than the norm.

Not spam just freakin ****ed off. The extra content that I bought for age of empires is not working and their tech support was no help so I went to paypal to get my refund..... THats all I want... I went to buy another game on steam but they disabled my account from buying things.... You would be ****ed off too..

Nope. Wasn't obvious to me, and to others apparently. I'll think twice about reporting threads if thats the thanks you get.

Cheers

The mod isn't required to agree with you. You can report, but it is up to the mod to act. As such, you report what you think shouldn't be here, but if the mod disagrees you keep moving.

It is a crappy tactic companies often use. They attempt to punish you so that you are less likely to use a chargeback in the future. Sometimes you have no choice.

don't be a wise guy. how about you keep moving ;-)

Next time read the TOS before you do something like this. It is WELL known that Valve does this when you charge back and its very clear in the TOS you agreed to, now there is nothing you can do to get your account un-blocked your only choice would be to start a new one.

My apologies then. Don't feel discouraged about using the report system. If you think it's spam, then chances are that it is. We can't always be right though. (Y)

You'd be wise to listen to him. ;)

I didn't know about it until now and I've been using Steam since 2003. To be more specific, I didn't know there was a penalty for filing a chargeback against Valve. I don't think the original poster's situation is hopeless. If he persists and drops the PayPal dispute, then the buy ban may be lifted. They don't appreciate things like PayPal or bank disputes.

See here:

[...]

We strongly suggest that you contact us before filing a dispute with your bank or with PayPal as we can return the funds to you immediately without any paperwork or claim forms. We will also ban your payment account from our system so that it cannot be used again. We take fraud very seriously and will permanently ban not only your card from our system but any and all Steam accounts that are tied to the fraudulent activity or disputed transactions.

Oh yes, it?s quite a big problem actually. People take notice of it around Steam sale time. That?s why you should be careful accepting gifts from strangers, if they do a chargeback your account can be jailed until you raise the issue with support. It used to mean losing your Steam library, but now it?s just an inconvenience when you want to make a purchase.

Its not spam so thanks for sticking up for me. Ill send steam another support email and see if we straighten it out

If you do a chargeback on steam, they can lock your account until steam gets it's money back from you. you chargeback them, they lock your games because you did not buy the games. While it's only one game, they CAN and have the right to lock your account as it is part of the Steam's TOS/SSA.

But the situation is improving. It looks like they are starting to only suspend the game in question and not the whole account.
