I cannot recall the previous ArsTechnica front page (perhaps someone can post a screenshot?), however, I actually rather like this design.

True, there is quite a lot of text content, especially in the middle column, with each article having a sub-heading, heading, body, author/date, and comments lines, however the appearance feels modern and fresh.

I expect there's a fair bit of clever layout code under the head too (I'm not terribly familiar with modern web coding) - the way the third column stops scrolling when there is no content, the headlines that 'cut' into the text, and the top navigation bar that remains at the top of the page.

The site loads very quickly for me, however scrolling is rather choppy on this old XP laptop.

I have to say I think it's much improved.

While I detest the 3 column layout, moving it back to one column gives you basically the old Ars experience, but with a bunch of new tools. In particular I am liking the MyStories tool :o

Also: What is the deal with the floating header :| Makes me want to kill people when I try and view Ars on my tablet :\
