Need Help! Easily worried and stressed; I feel sick

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I was just wondering if anyone could help me or point to something that could help me. Please!

I get REALLY stressed and worried veryyy easily. I get so worried that it makes me feel nauseous and sick. Sometimes my legs will go start to go numbish and feel weird. This can trigger in a second. For instance, if I have final exam coming up and im worried, I will feel sick for days, sometimes a week. Sometimes it's really bad. Before I dropped a class I dreaded waking up the next day because i was just so worried for what my day will be. I just get so worried, stressed and anxious so fast. It's been like this for several years.

I currently have a girlfriend that I love sooo VERY much. I'm really worried about losing her (more so lately after we had a talk, BUT we JUST had another one so hopefully I wont be as worried). This makes me incredibly sad. I'm not the type of guy to feel sad or cry, but thinking about losing her makes me soooo sad. For instance, I was worried all day(it REALLY was like all day) today about losing her. I just kept thinking of bad thoughts.

For w/e reason, as soon as my brain is idle and not focused on something I will think about bad things happening to us, like us breaking up. This happens A LOT. I try to not think about and distract myself, but it's really hard. When I leave her to go somewhere, I will think bad things in about 5-10 seconds! My brain just defaults to bad thoughts. It makes me VERY sad, worried ans stressed out.

I was just talking to her about my worrying and she was comforting me and I asked if my worrying would push her away. She said she'd let me know if it did. So I now know that if I tell her about my worrying it could start to push her away. So NOW I'm worried that I can't tell her when I'm really worried or scared because I might lose her because of that. So I'm worried about my worrying. It's like this vicious cycle that consumes my brain.

A lot of this post was about my gf, just cause lately that's my thoughts. I trust her SO much and I know she loves me, so idk what to do about my these thoughts.

I desperately want this to stop. I'm so tired of it. I've never consulted a professional about this.

Thanks everyone!

If you've been going on like this for years it might be time you mention it to your GP or similar so they can run a quick assessment and possibly refer you to consulting or so. Since you have bad thoughts all the time and anxiety I'd say you suffer from depression in some shape.

Try to be honest to people about your concerns, but more importantly, do try to question yourself whether it's rational or irrational. It's difficult but try. If you manage it'll be slightly easier to deal with it.

I see. I think the past 3-4 months I've been having bad thoughts during idle brain time, but I can't be sure (possibly longer). But being easily worried and anxious to the point of feeling sick has been around for years.

From reading your post it sounds to me like you are suffering from an anxiety disorder, when left untreated or without seeking help it can feel like your carrying the world on your shoulders, especially if you feel that you are unable to talk to those around you about the issue. Fortunately, most anxiety disorders can be treated and helped by talking to a professional about whats going on and also sometimes with medication. It's nothing to be ashamed of, many people suffer from this and you'd be suprised how common an issue it can be for people.

Make an appointment to see your Doctor and explain to him what you have explained in the above post and i'm sure it will be the beginning of getting yourself back to feeling you again.

Thanks for the advice. I think I might just be a little ashamed or embarrassed. I don't really like that I might need to see a doctor or need medication. :/ But I understand it might be needed :)

It's perfectly natural to feel like that, everybody does at times, just not everybody will admit it. Don't let these things eat away at you, it's not worth it in the long run, as you state you have an amazing girlfriend who you love then what do you have to lose, by seeking help and making yourself feel better you will in turn make your relationship better too. It's a win-win situation.

If you ever need any advice, or just somebody to talk to then feel free to MSG me on here. Gareth.

There really is no need to feel ashamed or embarrassed, I suffer(ed) from social anxiety disorder when I was younger and just talking to a doctor about it was enough to control the feelings of anxiety and start to better understand the reasons & reactions. As corny as it sounds, that first step is the hardest.

Good luck.

I know what you feel. I'd recommend hypnotherapy if you really need to talk, I know for a fact that it works you just need to find a real professional. I hope you're not taking any pills for anxiety or something like that, what ever you do don't, it will just make the situation worse by temporarily masking the problem, making it harder when you are not on them and literally making you a drug addict.

I can tell you a bit how I went from a really nervous to a pretty confident guy... I stopped worrying so much. I used to always be scared of things going bad and that made things go bad. If you always think and talk of something it's almost as if you want it to happen. When your mind is set that way the bad things in your life will overshadow the good stuff and dominate your thoughts no matter how small or insignificant they may be. If you always worry about your girlfriend leaving you and talk to her constantly about it will get on her nerves eventually (if it doesn't already) and she may leave you.

Instead of thinking of how bad things can turn out think of how good and really focus hard on what you want and don't forget that failures happens to everyone, even the greatest, it's how you become greater and wiser.

I hope this helps. I know it's not easy, as tenpoundmouse said, the first step is the hardest. But everything will feel so easy after that :)

This does sound like some kind of anxiety problem - and I'd suggest that you're really not alone. The numb leg feeling is something I've experienced in moments of shock, like after a near miss in a car.. so would make sense that it's all related.

As has been said I'd suggest going to talk to a doctor about your problem. Being reassured that it's not an uncommon problem would help I'm sure but I suspect they may be able to give you some natural remedies to help relax you somewhat.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I've suffered from anxiety for about a year now. It's crippling for me, and I've ended up changing the way I do things because of it. For example, I now walk everywhere if it's possible because I get incredibly nauseous if I take the bus or train. This has an added problem for me since I use the train pretty much every other weekend to head home and see the family.

When I started my job here in October, I remember a couple of meetings where I stood up halfway through and said, "excuse me" before leaving the room due to Nausea. It came to our evaluation period and the boss ended up asking me about my performance. When I explained my occasional absences, he was good enough to be understanding and we've been able to work around it.

I've not been to the doctor yet. Partly because I hate going to the doctors, but also for the reason you made: it feels embarassing to think that I need medication to sort this out. Instead, I've found this homeopathic stuff, Similasan. It's supposed to combat anxiety, and I've got to admit that - whether it be a placebo or not - it has worked really well for me.

For myself, if my problem continues then I eventually will go and see a doctor. For you...well, it's up to you what you want to do. But at least you can take some comfort in knowing that you're not the only one here suffering. :)

One of the problems by not going to the doctor is that it's near impossible to find out what it is that's bothering you, so to speak. You really need a mental assessment and diagnosis. It's the first step when it comes to dealing with these kind of issues. And try not to read too much on the Internet, believe me, at some point every mental disorder in the world fits you right in.

Also, don't be embarrassed about going to the doctor. They are used to dealing with these issues, they are not going to judge you, and no one in the waiting room is going to know what you were talking about. You don't even have to mention it to anybody else. It took me over a decade to see help, a decade I can never get back? so don't do the same mistake as I. It's really not that much to it, apart from the feeling of improvement or relief.

And you most likely won't need medication. They might want to give it to you just to get you out of the way, so to say, but tell them you don't want it - unless you can't actually cope. You should only accept and take medication if you feel that you can't function anymore, or after a psychologist or similar recommends it along with therapy.

Anyway, ultimately, I only know what I've experienced? it's better to let medical professionals help you. Talk to your doc, really.

Dude, it's an anxiety related issue (in my non-qualified opinion). I would certainly talk to your GP and suggest you'd be more keen to go down a non-medicated route if possibly.

My current GF has an anxiety situation, and in like 5 weeks of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) she's 99% overcome it, and is about half way through her course. It's totally changed her view on life and made her calmer and happier without the need for any pills. I don't mean we need to pussyfoot around her in case she has an issue, they are just gone.

Dude, no need for embarassment, no stigma here! One in four people have some sort of mental issue, myself included and I'm a "successful", "high functioning" - "normal" person. Really mate, you're just fine, you just need a damned good chat with the right people :)

Far be it for me to contradict Neobond, but...

Pills MAY not be the answer. I'm a fan of couselling and holistic therapy - the mind is something that doctors are nowhere near fully understanding, so try those things before medicinal solutions.

There are times when the use of medicines if 100% legitimate. Then again, I would say the same of placebos.

Either way, if you need to talk or support, here's as good a place as any :)

omg, exact same thing here...

only started to happen a couple of months ago..

anyone help?

I had a huge problem with anxiety and panic attacks. They would seemingly strike at any moment, any time. The numbness in my hands, legs, and face. The fear of losing control in some way. The fear of embarrassing myself in front of people. Such attacks are frightening and debilitating. Thankfully, I've managed to get them under control.

This website has a lot of information about this issue. I've practically memorized every article as I read them many times when I was having an attack. The information brought comfort and reassurance that this was a mental issue for me and that I could "re-train" my mind to stop triggering the symptoms that triggered my anxiety. Every situation is different, of course, but I thought I'd share that with you because it might help you, too.

There are materials you can buy from the site, but I never did. The free articles were sufficient to help me curtail this problem in my life.

Good luck!

I want to ask something about panic attacks. I don't know if what I experience is a panic attack. One time my girlfriend and I had this serious talk about our relationship she was thinking we needed to break up and it reallllly scared me. She was on the phone with her friend and I was worried that after the call she was about to break up with me (i was in the room with her) and my heart starting beating realllly fast, my legs got numbish, I was breathing in and out really fast, I felt kinda dizzy, my stomach was upset and I felt reallyyyyy scared. Is that a panic attack?
