Nvidia Control Panel causing system to freeze

Recommended Posts

I updated to the newest drivers last night (301.42), and this morning Nvidia Update was showing me that there was a new version out, so I clicked download drivers, and the system froze, no HDD activity, nothing, ctrl, atl, del did not help, I had to press reset to get the system back. Now after that reset, I attempted to access the Nvidia Control Panel via right click on the desktop, and it had the same effect, complete freeze of the system! Could the installation be corrupt or...?

I preformed a clean install of my system last night in preperation of the Windows 8 Release Preview, and I gotta say, I don't miss the NVIDIA Control Panel junk at all. I'm running with the GeForce 260 drivers only. Fixed a ton of problems I was having with my system, and my dual monitors are working again.

So, I agree with jdawg683, uninstall, and let the OS download the drivers from Windows Update, and see if that helps. You're going to have to disconnect from the net to do that. Make sure you clear out everything NVIDIA related.
