Two Wgr614v10 Routers Linksys

One is used as a router the other is setup as a repeater. The router is attached to the cable modem Time Warner -

I am on the other end of the house on wireless,Hence I get 3 connections between me and the outside world..

The repeater (Router in repeater mode)(which they after looking in the manual they refer to as ECHO mode)

The Router with one wired connection.

The cable modem TWC

"Wgr614v10 Routers Linksys"

Do you mean Netgear? That model number shows as netgear

Do you have a model number of the cable "modem"?

I have looked in the documentation and I don't see anything about repeater mode or echo mode? What manual are you reading?

edit:

"I am on the other end of the house on wireless,Hence I get 3 connections between me and the outside world."

I have no doubt that is how you have it setup, and your seeing 3 hops -- but what I am saying is that is not an optimal type setup, and there is no reason for it to be setup like that. I could be 3 houses over repeating the wireless signal between 3 different houses and still only see the 1 hop between my device and the internet --> the gateway off my network. There is no reason to route traffic over 3 different network segments to repeat it. If you see a hop, that means routing happened.

Could you please post this trace, would like to see the IPs your routing through.

You are right- Netgear and it was in the manual that is included-- There is a troubleshooting card inside the box ...

The linksys is the other router I have here at the house ..

The Netgear is the one I have two of and one is in Repeater mode.

There is a troubleshooting card included.

here is a screenshot since you say it does not have repeater mode.

I said the manual does not say anything about it

"in the documentation and I don't see anything about repeater mode or echo mode?" In the manual available on the web.

BTW - that does not say echo mode, And why should it show that in your IP in your hop if its just repeating the wireless signal.

BTW there is no reason to Hide private IP.. And it shows that IP in your trace?? That makes NO sense at all - and what is the wan and lan setup on this device? There should be no reason for the wireless repeater bridge to a repeater address.. Not sure how they are "repeating" the signal -- but it seems to be a lame way of doing it if you ask me. There should be no reason to see a hop in a wireless bridge repeating a wireless signal.

Curious what network that repeater address is on? And what IP address and dhcp server your clients are using - again its pointless to hide private IP space.. I showed you that my router is on 192.168.1.253, my AP is 192.168.1.252, my main desktop is 192.168.1.100

My work machine here is

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.56.41.89

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.56.41.1

There is no point in hiding a private address space network..

Now if you want to hide a wireless radio mac, sure go for it.. That could show up on a wireless war driving database for example, no reason to hid the first 3 since that would be just the maker of the device, ie netgear, etc.

example

http://coffer.com/mac_find/?string=netgear 0002E3 Lite-On Communications (maybe NetGear) 00095B Netgear Inc 000FB5 Netgear Inc 00146C Netgear Inc 00184D Netgear Inc 001B2F Netgear Inc 001E2A Netgear Inc 001F33 Netgear Inc 00223F Netgear Inc 0024B2 Netgear 0026F2 Netgear 30469A NETGEAR C03F0E NETGEAR

I just followed the Wizard that is built into the router.

The troubleshooting card is a small 6x6 card that looks like it was supposed to be a part of the manual but was a last minute addition.

The card I am looking at is what shows "echo mode" which can be enabled just above the advanced section under a heading called Diagnostic.

Once you check that box it will echo to show response times.

Otherwise it is like you said only shows the router and the modem. (my cable modem is the one with a phone as well Time Warner Cable)

I forgot to mention to enable the diagnostic mode.

    • If they don't subtitle it "the search for more money" I'll be a little miffed.  I mean, that was a play on "the search for Spock" which no one freaking knows anymore, but still, they literally named the sequel in the first movie, so ...   (regardless, with everyone still alive on board, I'm super happy)
    • It never was. I hear that year after year. It never becomes that.
    • I use it every day also and have never had an issue with any part of it not working OOTB. Maybe not year of the Linux, but I'm willing to bet there will be a fair amount of people making the switch in the next few months. I know I've helped switch a couple dozen people myself.
