Hey I got one...after May 27 how will you be able to tell a gamer isn't from Chicago? If they think Watch Dogs looks ugly hahahahahahaha...ugh, hmmm.

And sorry, didn't read through the thread though pretty sure how it all went...I know most of the PC stuff people say is just in jest, but let's give it a rest nonetheless. Pretty sure everyone here that has a PS4/X1 also has a powerful PC setup, it's not like they're mutually exclusive.

Yes, I admit the current footage looks less attractive than the one from E3 two years ago, but that is possibly due to games looking better now than they did then. We don't realize it, but in that interim we've had stuff like Last of Us and Crysis 3 and I don't know what else all, across multiple platforms. The bar has been raised, and what was awesome then looks normal now. Yes, games do evolve that quick, but incrementally, so as enthusiasts we don't notice it. It's like watching yourself age in the mirror.

Also, many of us became attached to Watch Dogs because it's The Next Generation Game, that's how we were introduced to it and it's the first glimpse we got of what we were supposed to expect. That's a lot of baggage and setting ourselves up for disappointment.

Clearly the version running on the 20-liter, $1500 machine with the 12 billion transistors will have a performance edge on the version running on the $400-$500 5-7 billion transistor and 5-liter machine...that's not exactly surprising or news, it's been the case since...always. Personally wanted to get it on PS4 but have to admit this has given me some pause, and with Blacklist looking so nice on PC might get Watch Dogs via Steam/Uplay. But let's not blow this out of proportion here.

Watch Dogs: seamless multiplayer can be turned off, says Ubisoft

Monday, 10th March 2014 10:53 GMT By Dave Cook

Watch Dogs multiplayer is a bit like Dark Souls, in that other players can ?invade? your world and attempt to hack away your hard-earned cash. You can kill them before it happens of course, but for those who don?t want to be bothered, Ubisoft has confirmed the mode can be turned off.

Missed the Watch Dogs release date trailer last week? Watch it through the link. It?s out May 27.

I played Watch Dogs multiplayer at gamescom last year, and gave a detailed run-down of how it works here.

Speaking with Polygon, lead game designer Danny Belanger said, ?All the online activities are just part of the menu. They?re a choice. But if someone is not into that ?. they can totally turn it off.?

?There?s also something important called the shield,? he went on. ?If someone comes into your game, they can?t come in right after so you can?t be spammed in that way ? unless you become aggressive and you start going into other people?s games,? Belanger said. ?Then you really become available. But it?s just a player choice in the end.?

OK, now i'm worried...forget the graphics, will get this on PS4 over PC due to loyalty and wanting to support the hardware i spent years clamoring for (gotta put my demands where my mouth is...)

But wait, what? May Stadium? What is this? Is that supposed to be Clark and Waveland or Clark and Addison? Where's Wrigley? What version of Chicago is this? Might as well be a GTA universe!

EDIT: MAD MILE?! In the previews i thought i heard the cop chatter say Mag Mile, which is great. No, it's really MAD MILE. Damn you Quebec people, stick to making games where Montreal "c'est un lovely city, no?"

Watch Dogs video welcomes you to Chicago

Thursday, 27th March 2014 17:02 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Watch Dogs has a new trailer available welcoming you to Chicago. It?s probably not the Chicago you are used to, honestly.

Watch Dogs releases on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One at the end of May and the Wii U version remained undated.

Really resent this...i have a feeling they would not like it if someone did that to Montreal. This is NOT Chicago, it's got nothing to do with the Chicago where i grew up and where my family lives. Why even call it Chicago? License Carcer City from Rockstar or make up a new name...i really hope the loading screen has a disclaimer saying something about an alternate reality version of Chicago, because otherwise this can be quite insulting. Calling a cherished place like Wrigley...May Stadium? Sure, there's a reference in there, but that's like the Empire State Building going by what was it, Rotterdam Tower? Rockstar are sane and savvy enough to not use real place names to avoid all this nonsense. Calling it Chicago to play on people's expectations and then totally changing it is not cool, it's a real place where real people live. OK, end rant, i'll still get this of course to support and to enjoy, but not cool Ubi

HOLD THE PRESSES! Excuse me, at 0:10...what THE #### is that? The craggy hills of Illinois? Or did we steal some footage from GTA V per chance Ubi? Seriously? HILLS WITH WIND TURBINES in Chicago! GTFO Ubi, you've been spending too much time at Rue St. Catherine titty bars again!

I really think you need to take a step back and chill out. It's a video game. There isn't any need to get so worked up about it. Seriously.

As for the latest videos, I can't say I'm as impressed as I was back with the original trailer. It looks much more like a generic GTA clone now. Hopefully the gameplay will make up for it but I haven't seen enough yet to form an opinion.

To me it's a big deal, but perhaps the posts made it seem a bigger issue than it really is...definitely do not like this and am upset by it, but it won't stop me from getting Watch Dogs day one nor is it the end of the world. I just don't understand why they chose this path rather than either use a fictional place or try to make it at least reasonably accurate a la LA Noir and others. As it stands, this is like Sleeping Dogs Hong Kong, which many people i know (as i lived in HK for three years) objected to. Guess any entertainment software with dogs in the title gets to do this!

Watch Dogs PC recommended specs are pretty tasty

Got an 8-core CPU and 8GB of RAM?

By Wesley Yin-Poole Published Monday, 7 April 2014

Over the weekend the Steam page for Ubisoft Montreal's Watch Dogs went live, revealing the minimum and recommended specifications for the open-world hacking game.

The Steam page, not available from the UK but reported on by Polygon, revealed:

Minimum specs:

  • DirectX 11 GPU with at least 1GB of VRAM (NVidia GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5770)
  • Quad core CPU (Intel Core2 Quad Q8400 or AMD Phenom II X4 940)
  • 4GB of RAM

Recommended specs:

  • Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1) or Windows 8 (Please note that we only support 64 bit OSs.)
  • DirectX 11 card with at least 2GB of VRAM (NVidia GTX560 ti or AMD Radeon HD 7850)
  • Eight core CPU (Intel Core i7-3770 running at 3.5 GHz or AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core CPU running at 4 GHz)
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 25GB of available hard drive space

Meanwhile, the Steam page revealed a pre-order bonus: the Blume Agent Pack, which is the Blume Agent Outfit and recoil-reducing Blume Weapon effect.

There's also a Deluxe Digital Edition, which includes more missions and costumes.

Watch Dogs launches on these shores on 27th May.

Thanks for posting these - but why does Steam say June 27 as the release date? Or did i imagine that? Need to check again...

Also, what's with the 8-core CPU requirement? How many people have eight cores and who the hell needs them? The eight core processors out there are generally worse for gaming than quad cores, so...why? Yet they settle for 8GB RAM. I'd imagine 16GB RAM would be more important than the CPU. Are we back in the early 90's when it was all about CPUs? Maybe i should dig up my old 486DX50, that was the best for running Privateer...

No idea, it's not listed on Steam in UK yet.

Worldwide release on 27th May and TBA on Wii U though. Not unless they're going to release in later like they do AssCreed on PC?

With the crap requierment that where fake for Cod, i would wait reviews, i have many doubt for this game since it's still an old generation game tied with old hardware. Never was ubisoft able to code a proper multicore engine yet so

Have a sneaking suspicion that it will be delayed for PC, but who knows. Steam for me shows May 28 on the search result screen, then when you go to the game page it's June 27. Weird. This also goes back to the ridiculous IP locking and geo-fencing we were discussing. How come it's not up on the UK Steam store? Why is there even such a thing as UK Steam store or a US Steam store etc?

Agreed, these specs reek of chest thumping to get attention. The only machines that have eight cores readily and will run this game are the X1 and PS4...and we know that a quad core desktop CPU has more brawn then those two lovelies. So, i don't get the specs, it's the same engine as Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III, no? Why should it be so steep?

Watch Dogs delay explained: ?To be honest, we just polished the game,? says Morin

Thursday, 10th April 2014 10:46 GMT By Dave Cook

Watch Dogs was delayed by six months back in November, and creative diector Jonathan Morin has shed some light on how Ubisoft Montreal and the game?s other developers used that extra time in a new interview.

watch_dogs1.jpg

It follows confirmation of the Watch Dogs season pass, which is said to include a new playable character and more.

Speaking with Edge, Morin said, ?We didn?t really start shoehorning features in one after the other. It?s tempting to start saying, ?Oh, let?s add this and that, and we so wanted to add this,? but the reality is we?d just end up repeating the same thing over and over again.

?Our new starting point was an almost-shipped game, so the smart move was to not touch too much. Let?s just know exactly what we want to change and deal with it in a very precise way. We already had a huge game. Now the thing was to make sure everything connected with each other in a nice way. We didn?t really add anything huge to the game. We just tweaked everything.?

Much of this work involved ensuring that the parts that make up Watch Dogs? open world connected well. Morin added, ?When everything started to connect to each other, we started to feel the limitations of certain reactions. When you have so many animations, so many audio bars to do, so much text to write? the amount of content is so outstanding that when you start to play the game, sometimes you hit something you?ve never seen before and it?s not right, so you need more time.?

Ultimately, the delay has helped Ubisoft Montreal iron out a great degree of bugs and ensure that the game runs smoothly. Morin went on, ?When you?re in a closing phase like that, you don?t have the time to do certain things the way you would want. Suddenly, we had extra time on a game that you could play easily without crashing all of the time. And that was the new starting point.

?We could reintegrate or fix certain issues without the cacophony of hundreds or thousands of other bugs being entered every day and breaking something else. Everybody started fixing features, but in a very stable manner. The level of productivity and efficiency in the team was a hundred times greater because of it.?

We?ll know if the delay has truly been worth it soon. Stay tuned.

Watch Dogs is out May 27.

Watch Dogs Will Have No Loading Screens, New PS4 Footage At PAX East But No Xbox One Version

Animation director Colin Graham talks about the open world hacking title.

03rd, Apr. 2014 | Posted In News | By Ravi Sinha

Watch_Dogs-4.jpg

It seemed like an eternity ago when Ubisoft announced that its open world hacking adventure game Watch Dogs would be delayed from November 2013 to early 2014. The game is finally coming out this May and as it garners the usual run of controversies and information dumps, animation director Colin Graham has revealed some new information on the game.

First off, Watch Dogs will apparently be doing away with loading screens, or at least heavily shortening them. As Graham indicated on Twitter, ?WD [is] an open world architecture, and we have good mission streaming. We don?t like loading screens.?

Graham also mentioned that there would be some new footage of the game coming soon. ?We are showing some new footage at PAX east.?

It seems unlikely that this will be from the Xbox One version though as Graham stated that, ?I think it will be PS4.?

PAX East takes place in Boston from April 11th to April 13th. Watch Dogs will be out on May 27th for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Stay tuned for more updates.

Ya know, neither of the CPU's they listed are actually 8 cores.

- Minimum specs:

?DirectX 11 GPU with at least 1GB of VRAM (NVidia GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5770)

?Quad core CPU (Intel Core2 Quad Q8400 or AMD Phenom II X4 940)

?4GB of RAM

What 8 core requirement?

Look at the recommended specs man, it says 8-core CPU:

Recommended specs:

  • Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1) or Windows 8 (Please note that we only support 64 bit OSs.)
  • DirectX 11 card with at least 2GB of VRAM (NVidia GTX560 ti or AMD Radeon HD 7850)
  • Eight core CPU (Intel Core i7-3770 running at 3.5 GHz or AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core CPU running at 4 GHz)
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 25GB of available hard drive space

But as Blackhearted noted, that Intel chip is a quad-core. So the specs don't make a lot of sense, but i think we all know what they mean. This game should run fine on any PC that can run AC3 and Black Flag.

Technically, while they're 4 core chips, at least the intel ones with HT on act like 8 core chips to an extent.  They all have 8 "logical processors" because each core can do 2 things at a time.   Still, it's probably a typo or something, dunno.

Maybe they meant 8-threaded CPUs. Either way, doesn't make too much sense but obviously whatever the requirements are if you want the most visual punch then it's the PC version. Personally have decided to go with X1 rather than PS4 or my PC, which is more than up to the task. As I said before, we need to put our money where our mouth is and as someone who was demanding new consoles for years it would be very hypocritical of me to get the PC version :D

    • Windoze 11 could finally go to hell, instead of making me savor yet another error I've never had. "Bad Pool Caller" or whatever TF cryptic crap0la message it is. Adding salt to injury, it says something along these lines (on the blank black screen after it hard stops): "Your windoze needs to restart. You can restart." NO WAY SHERLOCK. The PEECEE, look, it's *blocked*, I can do jack sh1t with it as it is and you say that it needs to restart? Further, that I can restart? What am I supposed to do, take a herbal bath? Sudo a sandwich? Timewaster pile of useless slop and errors, coded by monkeys and force-fed on us by a pedo-founded corporation, that's all there is to it. Now, let's have a fun weekend trying to handle the error, which after a quick internet check can basically be due to EVERYTHING, from memory faults to drivers to motherboard issues. Thanks M$.
