Just switched back to the Dark Side...

He's from Texas, they don't like efficiency so he has to at least double, preferably triple the actual draw.

I have an i7-2700k and an ATI 6950 and I ordered a 1KW PSU with my rig? why... because it's nice to have the extra headroom as the circuitry starts to wear out. It's no more inefficient because the PSU will never draw more power than it actually needs to.

When you spend over 1k on a pair of 7970's and they don't work the way they should because of driver issues then the argument against AMD drivers is quite valid, especially when you previously had a pair of gtx 580's in SLI and they ran flawlessly the entire time you had them.

Except the argument pretty much borders on "My experience has been crap therefore ATI's drivers just suck". Didn't Microsoft go on record and say that something like 40% of all Windows Vista crashes during it's first year of release were being caused by nVidia graphics drivers? My experience has been counter to yours, I had nothing but issues with nVidia drivers and ATI's have been rock solid for me. At best it's a subjective matter, there's no definitive evidence that ATI's drivers are any worse.

Yes but they couldn't really blame NVIDIA when the drivers were whql certified

I do understand where you are coming from though, everyone seems to have a different experience, I've always had a good experience with AMD/ATI in the past, that is until I bought the 7970 cards, it was enough trouble to make me think twice about getting any more AMD cards in the future, I think when it comes time to upgrade again I am going to do a lot more research before buying anything, there will have to be a lot of positive comments and reviews in favor of AMD because there were a lot of negative comments and reviews toward the 7970 cards but I ignored them all thinking that people just didn't have their stuff set up properly.

Yeah I bought my Honda Civic Hybrid because of all the power it has.

Oh, you're from Finland, where your insignificance only dissapears for the moment someone reminds someone else that your country actually exists.... and then dissapears in the next breath.

Awesome - good one.

He's right to a degree, howver one you get past 15% more than you need it's just pointless and at 2 to 3 times it's just ridiculous. but having more than you need is good in balancing load and keeping up with potential spikes and crap like that.

also it dosn't hurt aything to have a bigger one, well except your wallet. a 1200W PSU doesn't use 1200W, it just "can" if needed. But it only uses as much as needed.

Hawk, yes you got my point - thanks.

:D

I think all the Texas comments were great - its true - We are not the most eco-savvy state. For some reason we feel we have to do everything in excess - When people are told to get rid of their H2 Hummer and their italian exotic in the garage due to their carbon footprints then people might care. Im sure it has something to do with the reason for me having 24GB RAM & 1000W PSU. A car that goes 160 that doesnt do much more than sit in traffic during rush hour

    • Zen Browser 1.21.4b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. • I was using searxng for about a year , self hosted, but results were starting to timeout and eventually it became unusable so I switched to degoog. Much better for my needs, more polished and add-ons like maps and calculations etc

    • Hello, I am not as familiar with AMD CPUs as I am with Intel's, but as I understand it, that's a mid-range CPU from about three years ago.  I would think it to be fine for everyday casual-type use.  A larger SSD might be better, but with storage prices these days that's a decision that has to be carefully thought about.
