taking ownership of files in win7 by formatting hdd

Recommended Posts

Dude -- I told you how to fix it.

Take freaking ownership and set the permissions.

Tell you want, let me TV in and it will be fixed in 2 minutes. Other than that - just format your box because this seems to be above your comprehension level.

"oddly i cant save anything on the desktop anymore and firefox wont open and the right click on desktop -"

Seems like you just dicking the pooch more and more as you attempt **** you do not understand.

I explained the problem - for him and the next 300 schmucks finding this thread, but somehow that offends him? Sorry he took it that way, but that is not my problem - nor do I really care.

Thought this was a tech forum, not a preschool.

It's a school for the gifted..... 'gifted' being true for both meanings of the word ;)

It's not that, it's your tone.

Since you clearly can not hear my voice or see my facial expressions while you read my words - any tone you perceive is very subjective. I was asking questions and stating facts. Nothing more, nothing less.

A good tech knows when he's in over his head and it looks like you're in over your head. Follow BudMan's directions and all will be fine.

BudMan reminds me of our database administrator. He's knowledgeable and he'll tell you how to fix the problem but don't expect any sugar coating.

any tone you perceive is very subjective.

True. However, look at the following bits:

for him and the next 300 schmucks...

Come on really?? I would have to think that if your installing multiple OSes, that you tinker quite a bit.. And you don't even have a basic understanding of NTFS permissions?

Once you have a basic understanding, then you will no longer have these sorts of basic problems.

Now don't get me wrong, that last bit makes sense (basic understanding = avoidance of basic problems), but from the few pieces that I quoted you could also see how someone might take slight offence when they're trying to ask for help. However as you have rightly pointed out, tone is subjective with this medium of communication, and ultimately you're providing him with the answers that he needs.

Anyway, we're going off-track with this, let's stick to the original topic.

Schmucks was in reference to the future people finding this thread, not the OP looking for help and finding nothing but the OP nonsense.. Do they really need 300 lines of

ProgramData\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys\e917b9049b509516d9

086b7d95bfd1ba_b45e610c-8920-4c0f-bc9b-41dc73f5a36f: Access is denied.

Freaking was again after my original post - and after getting told that people must look down at me.

I offer information and help in fixing the issue - and I get attacked.. If anyone should offended at tone it should be me.

This topic should of been closed 2 pages back - take ownership and set the permissions. What else do you need to know?

If the OP wants it fixed, and can not figure it out then I am still open to TV in and fix it for him. There is little need to drag this thread on any longer - the information has been given. What else is there to say? If he is having problems looking up the instructions on how to take ownership.

True. However, look at the following bits:

Meh, forums are such that new members need to adjust and get to know the regulars, not the regulars have to tip-toe around the new guys :p

People have personalities, if people can't handle that well..... :D

<Post>

BudMan, don't get me wrong I understand. I was merely pointing out how in a subjective environment a phrase without tone can be construed in different ways. Ultimately I agree that you provided the necessary information for the OP to fix the problem.

Very true. It took me a while to understand BudMan's tone when reading his replies.

Anyway, this problem seems to be sorted, unless the OP is still having troubles?

Can you open an Elevated Command Prompt (Right click CMD > Run as Admin) ?

If you can, do that and in CMD type: sfc /scannow

Then hit enter and let it run the scan, reboot and see if that improves anything

Also, in CMD, type: net user administrator /active:yes

Hit enter > log off > Administrator account will be shown > log into Admin account and try again

tried the admin account and cacls command still getting access denied.

didnt work not even from the admin account +listed as owner + icacls command + right click ownership. no go still stuck.

I had a problem a bit like this (a Windows Vista account, was getting access denied & other errors upon startup related to explorer.exe) where every time I tried to fix anything it either q/uq "worked" or it had access denied errors such that it was easier just to install the Win8 RP over it. So, just to clarify for everyone, you've -

  • gone into the administrator account
  • checked the file security ownerships/etc., you're an owner
  • used icacls to set yourself as the owner
  • used the right-click reg file to add "Take Ownership" to your right click menu, and did that on the files in question.

sorry if you've posted this info somewhere else in the thread and I just didn't see it, but

  • what error exactly do you get when you attempt to open one of those files?
  • if you right click it Properties -> Security what are the permissions for EVERYONE, your account, the administrator account, SYSTEM, etc.?
  • do you get an error when you try to Take Ownership and/or cacls other than Access is Denied?
  • noticed anything else weird lately? (like signs of a malware infection or something)

To be honest, I haven't tried this software out for myself, but maybe it will work wonders for you?:

i deal with far worse on a regular basis.

Yup!! Far Worse -- just yesterday there was this guy that could not follow instructions in a simple take ownership and set permissions problem. Vs posting anything actually useful to help in troubleshoot what he was doing wrong, like the actual commands he was doing. Or screen shots or exports of the permissions/ownership on the folders or files. He just complained about advice and information given.

He was able to post 300+ lines of "access denied" --- No **** access denied, really when your not a owner and you try to change permissions, what do you expect to happen ;)

I deal with this sort of person day in and day out, over and over and over again -- it can be exacerbating at times to be sure. But hey, its worth dealing with these types to every now and then actually help someone fix their issue, or better yet have them learn something in the process, best of all spark that flame in someone to actually learn something on their own and not lick off the silver spoon.

Luckily these types are not the majority, they format their boxes and move on without learning a thing. Sad really -- but hey, the next guy might actually learn something -- you can only hope!

oh btw -- this was a guy on a different forum, before you get your panties in a bunch ;)

    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
