It has come a long, long way...

And in it's current state is very much playable. It's just boring.

Flat out saying "no" is very one dimensional and shows the lack of research and interest that most Neowinians have.

Wait for 2.0, it isn't worth the monthly subscription fee that they stupidly implemented just as the game was starting to garner slightly more interest.

If you are truly interested, follow the game on http://www.ffxivcore.com/ or other fansites. Or just use the official lodestone.

Personally, i've found that Tera Online has cured my desire for hypersexualized grindy JMMORPGS. Try the 7 day trial, it's free and far more interesting that FFXIV in it's current state.

man I played the Tera beta. I'd rather stab myself in the leg once a day for three years straight (assuming it would still be attached by then.)

Fortunately The Secret World is here so =)

"The Secret World" is not a JMMORPG. Completely different genre of MMO from what XIV and Tera are.

I wonder if they are going to have a proper trial version anytime soon. I know they didn't charge for the game for like the first year almost, but you had to have bought the game already. I'd like to try the game out now and see how it is, because I'm interested in the game quite a bit. Also, nice trailer :D

I wonder if they know... No one cares lol.

"As we transition from the game?s current version to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, existing game content will be undergoing a number of changes. This post will detail such changes coming to achievements, character histories, guild marks, replayable cutscenes, and the availability of the goobbue mount.

Goobbue Mounts

As previously announced, the goobbue horn, which is the item used to summon the goobbue mount, will no longer be obtainable as of the release of patch 1.23a.

Guild Marks

All of your guild marks will be deleted upon logging into A Realm Reborn. For this reason, we urge you to visit the guilds and use your marks before that time. Replayable Cutscenes

As part of A Realm Reborn, the content of nearly all cinematic cutscenes will be reworked. This will result in significantly different viewing experiences for the same cutscene between the current version of the game and A Realm Reborn.

Character Histories

In A Realm Reborn, the date on which an achievement is completed will be recorded as part of an in-game character history, which will be maintained in a manner different from current character histories on the Lodestone. We are also looking into ways to have the current character histories remain accessible on the Lodestone following release of A Realm Reborn."

My friend has been a fan of Final Fantasy since the original. He was a die-hard FF11 fan (although he admitted there were faults with it), but even he won't touch this mess.

I'm checking out 2.0, only because I feel obligated to since I bought the damn collectors edition the day after release for full price... And because it will be F2P for a little while after 2.0 hits so everyone can check out the new features. Quite honestly if it isn't amazing, I am going to write one e-mail a day to SE until I get a full refund. I don't care how long it takes.

So they are going to still charge a monthly sub fee for this game when just about every other month another mmo that used to have a sub is going f2p? Seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot a second time.

Most F2P games are still money pits if you want to actually play them. Subscription may not be the way to easily get people playing but at least those who are know exactly what they're going to be spending.

Most F2P games still offer the subscription model as well...the only thing they really cut is the box price.

There will be like a 7 day trial or whatever for returning players, but essentially yes... They are returning to a subscription model... Which will hurt it. The game needs to be F2P again for at least a month or two so people will be inclined to play again.

Bump!

Anyone in the beta? I'm loving all the new additions and changes that they've done to the game.

And to anyone says that this game should be F2P, I say NO. This game is too good to go down that route. F2P is the worst thing ever to come to MMORPGs.

I am in the beta currently. And will be playing it this weekend when it is back up again. The changes they've implemented have surely affected it in a positive way, i've been mostly exploring the areas, and drooling over how expansive the game truly is. Every aspect of XIV now screams XI 2, this is a very good thing. I can't wait to once again be able to play a WHM again.

Although, I was depressed to find out, airships won't even be available at 2.0s release... When it was promised to be released so long ago during 1.0... Granted a lot has happened with the regime change and what not... But it was a low blow.

Also, I agree on the F2P model. It causes unwanted crowds to mass to the game. (Poor TERA online...) But despite that, I hope there will be a long duration of free gametime for the 1.0 players so we can decide if the wait was worth it or not.

    • I don’t get why if I bought the game on the last get I needed to pay $40 to upgrade to the new version in the first place and people who love the game and play a lot would have upgraded already so this is just PR and a chance to grab new players who forgot the game long time ago I think
    • The term "use" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that headline. "Use" can mean opening ChatGPT occasionally to ask for the definition of a word or information about a specific topic. If you frame the question around how many people use it as a daily driver in their work or personal lives, that number is a lot smaller. Those are the people who pay for AI. Nearly everyone else is happy to use it for free, but doesn't see enough value in it to pay for it.
    • No support for Windows Hello!
    • I think you meant the "ntfs3" driver, but yes there have been a lot of fixes for it in this release and previous releases, not 100% sure if the issue you mentioned is fixed though. In any case, the new "ntfs" driver in 7.1 doesn't have that issue (at least, no reports of such have come thru), but your kernel needs to explicitly enable support for the new driver first (like how CachyOS kernel has it), and you need to edit your mount points in /etc/fstab to use "ntfs" instead of the other drivers.
    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
