Best dedicated server host?

Question

I'm interested in renting a *Windows* dedicated server (I don't know how to manage Linux :( ). GoDaddy offers:

OS: Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit

CPU: Intel? Core? i3 - 2 cores

RAM: 2 GB

Storage: 2 x 160 GB hard drives

Bandwidth: 5 TB per month

for $109.99/month. Is this a good deal? It includes Remote Desktop Connection, which I want.

Are there better deals out there? I'd rather not go with GoDaddy if I can avoid it.

Avoid godaddy.. note that whole sopa and pipa drama and also the lack of decent support and the elephant thing...

For dedicated I'm partners with inetu and they are hippa and pci cert hosting so really secure. I can set u up with a really good one that's beyond those specs and they'll work w u to even cut the price down. They custom build all servers and services.

They do windows hosting as well.

They also have cloud w the same lvl of sec.as their dedicated servers. It's powered by Vmware!!!

Have you tried eBay per chance? I have gotten some good hosting through them before VPS wise, but quickly outgrew the offerings, but then again, I didn't shop around like I do now. :)

Also, http://www.webhostingtalk.com will get you in on some good reviews of hosting providers,

And out of curiosity, what is the reason you want to host a site on dedicated? Is it a heavy resource hog or can it be hosted on a VPS (Think of it as a dedicated server, but virtualized so you don't have to pay for the hardware rental), or even shared hosting?

As you asked for "the best dedicated server host", that would be Rackspace by a mile. Very expensive though. If you want affordable and good, Media Temple. Avoid GoDaddy like the plague.

One option would be Rackspace Cloud - you can start off relatively cheaply and build up resources (and therefore cost) as the site expands. Starts at about 4c per hour for Winodows I believe, so about.

A very basic dedicated server host but when I used them they responded always very quickly and were very helpful. It is self managed though so your responsible for fixing any software related issues. Low as 24.95 for one and up.

I'm a pretty big fan of Singlehop.

We have 4 servers hosted with them in their Chicago(1) data center. They've always been reliable, and barring a **** up with regards to a down time notification (they sent it 5 times, revised it, sent out a cancellation, sent a new one, then someone senior stepped in and sorted it all out), we haven't had any issues in the 5 years we've been with them.

Their pricing is good, their uptime has been nigh on perfect and their data center staff are great.

Certainly worth a look.

Rackspace are highly overrated and overpriced for what you get. They'd only be decent if you know absolutely nothing about running a server and need help daily and if that's the case you should pay someone else to look after the server

try one of the following ones, all good specs and cheaper:

www.server4you.net

www.hetzner.info

www.ovh.com

Im currently a hetzner customer, there prices are unmatched for there bid servers - though they are and unmanaged service, so you only get fault(data centre issues/hardware issues) support and absolutely 0 help with the server software wise so unless you are confident you can maintain it yourself look elsewhere!

that said i dont need there support so the low prices make me happy!

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
