The game interests me, without a doubt, but i'd like to see how they support it in the coming months. I don't have the best faith in Funcom, but if it seems like the population of this game stays steady (i can see it having a small dedicated userbase) i'll happily pick up a copy. What is the end game like for TSW? It seems that a lot of the focus is on the quests and story, what happens when you hit the end? Is it focused on raids, small group dungeons, pvp?

IIRC they plan to expand the story rather than relying on raids or whatever. I haven't looked into it though since I rarely make it to endgame in MMOs.

While we are on DX11, I did the TSWAnalyzer (over at nvidia) and everything passed spare my 9800GT. Anyone off hand got a recommendation? It's about time I start to do upgrades might as well ensure I can play TSW on HIgh/DX11.

And can you pull up the itemstore in game? I have yet to check it out.

Please disregard Wakers, he setup shop in the thread and apparently just wants to troll about how cool GW2 is (disclaimer I bought GW2 cant wait for its release but I'm enjoying my TSW and am still ****ed the ****ty DX9 they've been pushing every beta weekend for GW2 is so CPU bound at 5760x1080 its damn near unplayable it better ship with DX11). My friend has a GTX 570 and found it a little too weak to push resolutions higher than 1080p on max graphics and a 570 can be faster than a 7850 in a lot of instances.

Anyway back to GPU recommendations a GTX 670 would allow you to max out every detail and have smooth frames like butter but that depends on your budget. The biggest reason that I'm recommending an Nvidia solution is that the 600 series supports TXAA:

NVIDIA TXAA is new film-style anti-aliasing technique designed specifically to reduce temporal aliasing (crawling and flickering in motion) through a combination of hardware AA, custom CG film style AA resolve, and a temporal filter.

The Secret World is the first game to support TXAA (support will be enabled in an upcoming patch)..

I have two 3GB GTX 580s in SLI and as of the latest driver it runs great. It has camera problems with 5760x1080 so I play at 1920x1080 sadly. The game is too much fun to not play.

Also is there any way to respec SP? Is it in London?

Bad graphics?

I played GW2 is beta, and I agree, the graphics were very lackluster. I didn't play long enough to comment on the gameplay though.

Back on topic, TSW is awesome so far. It definitely has some bugs but the freshness of the setting, missions, and skill development is very welcome.

Not how the game works, there is no respec. you just start again on the circle you want to switch to, in the end you will have it all, same with the SP, in the end you will have them all.

I just haven't noticed if its increasingly grindy the higher you get in SP points if you were trying to get higher up in talismans or more weapons etc. I noticed you can respec AP (haven't tried it though) from the window but didn't see an option for SP.

Have you tried PvP or an Instance yet?

iirc they said you only get 500 points so you can't literally get everything. I dunno though.

I still have to figure out a secondary weapon...hmm. Blood magic could be cool but seems too gothy for me. I'll prolly end up with Chaos Magic.

So, for those of you who are playing: does the movement and combat seem "floaty" to you? I've heard that from several different sources and it's something that would irritate me to no end. By "floaty" I mean does it seem like you're floating above the ground and "run" animation is just playing when you move? How does combat "feel"?

I can't speak for everyone, it seems fine to me. I have not played the DX9 version at all though so I don't know if it's a YMMV situation.

i think you misunderstood, I think you can only have 500 unused ones at a time, there's no cap on how many you can actually have. just like SP's cap at 40 unused ones. i lost a few by now knowing that and just saving up since their bonuses are so low there's no need for them other than to unlock weapons and talismans.

in beta at the end i got over 10 tousand points or so from the buff bot :) i used it to set up a deck then i logged out and waited for release.

also the way the ring works, 500 points I'm not sure you can even fill up a full deck

movement i general seems perfect for me as far as animation go.

actually you can't respect AP you can only undo the ones you just added in untill you close the skill wheel.

So i changed my mind, because MMOs are my weakness. Green Man Gaming has 25% off on every game until tomorrow, and i saw they sell The Secret World. Being the weak-willed individual i am, i bought the game. I figure that MMOs are a fairly safe buy, because if an issue bothers me, the entry fee is only ever $15 to start back up in the future. I hope I end up liking it, but i'm not too worried - since it's only $35 or so. It can't be as bad as the $60 i lost on Diablo 3.

haha alrighty well I started this thread out of frustration then disappeared because someone handed me a buddy key. I didnt think much of this game in the Beta but post beta with my 24hr trial I found it to be quite engaging, Kingsmouth was good fun (didnt complete it) and learning the weapon system properly and figuring out the intricate nature of a few of the mechanics was good fun.

Definitely a bit of clunk to the UI and I find the missions except the main story all quite skippable I think were TOR spoiled me for choice was with being able to respond to dialogue...even if it wasnt needed and you space bar'd 99% of it, having a smart arse, evil or flirty option there made it feel a bit more engaging. I feel like your character in this one just stands there while people dribble on most of the time barely related to the info you need but all designed to build that atmosphere.

Not a fan of the lore system either, I usually love lore but again clunky system sort of puts me off.

Despite those things quite tempted to get this, I have zero expectations of me being in TSW for very long, I suspect I would finish the main storyline maybe a bit of instancing/raid/pvp and then call it quits (much like swtor, mmos just dont interest or capativate me like they use too, anyone else feel this?), but it feels like theres enough story, missions, content and atmosphere to easily make it through your free 30 days with purcase so in that regard seems worth it....I do have a tendancy with MMO's to burn the candles at both ends so to speak...busy at work atm not sure I should risk it so well see.

Glad theres some others out there giving the game a go.

For those who have purchased the game already and didnt know, you can send a 24hr buddy key to someone so they can test it.

Yeah, sadly it was a weekend only sale. I also feel the issue of MMOs not captivating me, but i think that's more just because there are not many good MMOs out there at this time. Guild Wars 1, and WoW both grabbed me for years, but none yet have repeated that. Looking at the MMOs to come out in the last couple years, though, i would not say there were any that were on par with WoW or GW1 - and this is reflected in the player numbers. The only 3 games that are doing well at the moment are Rift (a WoW clone), Eve online, and WoW. I'm hoping GW2 will grab me, but if not the future seems fairly bright for the MMO genre with stuff like WIldstar, Elder Scrolls online, Archage, Repopulation, Planetside 2, etc. coming out.

Armory for TSW. Can view your abilites/gear and see where you place on various leaderboards (cabal, faction, global). At the time of this post, top XP earned has 194million XP and only 66.3% of the ability wheel unlocked and everything but pistol damage SP spent.

In videos I see nothing but solo play and I was reading that most instances are solo as well, you can't even bring in a friend? So, is it just that you see other people running around in the game world, can you actually quest and run the story together?

There are certainly some solo instances, but they aren't the entirety of it. There are also group dungeons which I can't do since I can't be arsed to meet people. Investigations would probably also be easier with a group.

I'd say at least 95% of the time yes, you can do group. I imagine they'll add group options to the solo instances as time goes on.

Like most story-driven MMOs these days, there is a large emphasis on single player. The MMO elements are there, in the form of guilds, PvP, grouping, and running across other. I see a ton of people running around the areas i'm in, so i feel immersed in the world. I'd say, though, that the story and world is so prominent that i don't really mind that it's more single player oriented than a game like, say, Rift. I actually turned off general chat because the chatter distracted me from my goals at hand =P

      Passkeys: Think of them like a broken heart necklace. Imagine one of those heart necklaces that breaks into two matching pieces. One person keeps one half, and the other person keeps the other half. With passkeys, the website has one half, and you have the other half. If the website gets hacked and someone steals its half, that stolen piece is useless by itself. It cannot unlock your account without your matching half. This particular heart necklace is one of a kind, there is only one in existence. Your half of the necklace has to be stored somewhere. It might be stored on your phone, tablet, computer, security key, or a password manager that can sync it between all your devices. A security key is a small physical device that you keep with you, kind of like a house key, car key, or flash drive. I would not usually recommend a security key as the first option for the average person. For most people, it is easier to use their phone, computer, or a password manager that can sync passkeys between their devices. A security key is more like a spare key you keep in a safe place, just in case you lose access to your other devices or your password manager. Some security keys plug into your computer. Some plug into your phone or tablet. Some do not plug in at all and instead get tapped against your device. The idea is simple: a security key can hold another passkey for the same website. Think of it like creating a second one-of-a-kind heart necklace for the same account. One necklace could be paired with your password manager, while another necklace could be paired with your security key. That means the website has more than one matching half on file. One half matches the passkey in your password manager. Another half matches the passkey stored on your security key. So, if you lose access to your phone, computer, or password manager, you would still be able to log in using the passkey stored on your security key. Think of it like keeping an extra special necklace piece on a tiny keychain, stored somewhere safe. The website still has the matching half for that security key, but your half is safely stored inside the little key. A passkey does not automatically exist on every device you own. It lives wherever you save it. If your half is stored on one device, then that device is the one that has the matching piece. For example, if you create the passkey on your Windows computer and it is only saved to that computer, your iPhone does not automatically have that same half. If you create it on your iPhone and it only stays on that iPhone, your Android phone does not automatically have it either. That is where password managers come in. A password manager can act like a protected jewelry box for your passkeys. Instead of your half of the necklace being locked to only one device, the password manager can securely sync that half to your other approved devices. For example, Apple Passwords and iCloud Keychain can sync passkeys between your Apple devices. Google Password Manager can sync passkeys with your Google account. But password managers such as 1Password and Bitwarden can sync passkeys between everything, your phones, tablets and computers. Now, you might ask: “What happens if I lose access to the device that has my passkey?” That depends on where your passkey was saved and what recovery options the website gives you. If your passkey was synced through a password manager, you may be able to sign in from another device that has access to that same password manager. For example, if your passkey is saved in iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, 1Password, or Bitwarden, another approved device may still have access to it. If your passkey was saved only on one phone, computer, or security key, and you lose that device, then you may not have your half of the necklace anymore. In that case, you would usually need to use the website’s backup login or account recovery options. A lot of websites that support passkeys still let you fall back to your regular password. So if you lose access to your passkey, the site may still let you log in with your password, a code sent to your email, a text message, a recovery code, or some other account recovery process. That is convenient, but it is also important to understand: if the website still allows password login, then your password still matters. Passkeys are safer than passwords, but if your account still has a password as a backup, you should still use a strong, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication if the website offers it. This is why it is a good idea to have more than one safe way back into important accounts. For example, you might keep your passkey in a syncing password manager, add a second trusted device, save recovery codes somewhere safe, or set up a backup security key. A passkey is very secure, but just like a real key, you need a backup plan in case you lose access to it. Now, you might ask: “What stops a hacker from copying my half of the necklace?” That’s the important part: your half is protected. It is not something you type in, and it is not something the website gets to keep. Think of your half as being locked inside a tiny safe on your phone, computer, security key, or password manager. That safe only opens when you approve it with your fingerprint, face, PIN, or device password. When you log in, the website does not need to see your half. It only needs proof that your half matches its half. Your actual half is not handed over to the website. This is different from a password. With a password, you type the secret into the website. If you type it into a fake website, the hacker now has it. With a passkey, you are not typing your secret into the website. Your device is proving you have the matching half without giving the half away. That also helps protect you from fake websites. If someone makes a fake login page that looks like the real site, your device can tell it is not the real match. It will not use your passkey there. Now, could someone use your passkey if they stole your device, got into your password manager, or somehow unlocked the safe that holds your half? Yes, that is why your device password, PIN, fingerprint, face unlock, and password manager security still matter. But a hacker cannot just steal your passkey from the website or trick you into typing it into a fake page like they can with a password. That is why passkeys are safer than passwords. The two matching pieces have to come together, like two lovebirds who were once separated and are finally reunited.

      I heard from a lot of people that driver support for the latest games when RDNA first came out (Radeon 5000 series) was pretty bad, but if you didn't buy the card on day one, or were not trying to play the latest titles, then you were isolated from that issue. Other than that, it's been good and only getting better.

Similar to existing Meta AI Glasses, the new Meta Glasses include a dedicated action button that can be used to quickly access Meta AI or launch a favorite feature. They also feature open-ear speakers for calls, music, and more. Meta has also included a multi-mic array with wind noise reduction for calls and messaging. Users can capture photos and videos hands-free using voice commands. Meta claims more than eight hours of battery life, while the portable charging case can provide up to 40 additional hours. As expected, Meta Glasses come pre-loaded with Meta AI powered by Muse Spark from day one. Muse Spark is the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs with improved multimodal capabilities. The same Meta AI upgrade is also now available on existing Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta Glasses in the US and Canada via an update. With the Muse Spark-powered AI assistant, Meta AI in the new glasses can provide smarter answers, understand what the user is seeing, and help with daily tasks such as calendar management and navigation. Meta also announced an upcoming feature called the dynamic photo feature, which captures multiple frames and recommends the best one. Pedestrian navigation is also coming soon to these glasses. Meta is also adding support for 14 new live translation languages, including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Korean. The new Meta Glasses are available starting today through Meta.com, Best Buy, Amazon, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and select retailers.

      is that a personal preference? whether it is or isn't, i get where you're coming from. i try to get and use fully open sourced applications whenever i can but there are instances where i find a superior product that is closed sourced. in these cases i do my best to learn about the company, who operates it, their background, parent and sub structure etc. to some extent, depending on "the smell test". i really believe that Syncback is really and truly something great. even if you don't use it, it's always worth a recommendation to someone else, especially if that someone else is not very computer literate. for someone of your calibre you, you'll manage just fine with Syncthing, no doubt about it.
