Azusa
I've recorded about a minute of my HDD and just wanting to know if it's dying or something far worse just making an annoying noise saving up for a replacement i just want to know if it's dying or not cause it's 500GB and i don't want to lose that space. g0dzilla
If that clicking noise is the actual HDD itself and not your mouse, that is definitely a very bad sign and most likely means that the disk is failing due to a faulty head actuator or something similar! My suggestion would be to backup all of your important data and replace the drive ASAP.

Azusa
Any ideas from the new recording?
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted August 1, 2012 Veteran Share Posted August 1, 2012 If you have not done so, I would back up your hard drive ASAP. That sound is not normal, as you already know since you have started this thread. But that clicking usually indicates it is dying, no doubt about it. Here is a website that actually has an archive of sounds of hard drives dying. Your issue sounds most like bad heads making a clicking sound. Azusa
Ah thanks I've backed up and got replacement plans just i kinda want it to be dead as a door nail for RMAing and I'm glad and not doing something far far worse that being making an annoying noise. g0dzilla
Good to hear that you managed to get the backup out of the way and completed! Bet you can't wait for that nice, fast SSD to come along :)
Azusa
Yeah may have to do some little back ups every week or so Bookmarks and the like but hey the HDD might do something horrid like last for another 6 months.
g0dzilla
Yes, good idea! Just do incremental backups every week until you get the replacement drive. Well hey, getting an SSD is one of the best upgrades you can do for your system at this point in time anyway ;)
Azusa
Don't mean to bump and old thread but just a little update my HDD isn't making that noise any more has it fixed it's self or is it just going quietly?
