Fallout 3 vs. New Vegas?

Recommended Posts

Since it's Quakecon weekend on Steam, today's deal is offering Fallout 3 and New Vegas at 66% off. Can anyone recommend one or the other and explain why?

Just my own preference, but personally I liked Fallout 3 over New Vegas.. it just felt more in line with the whole post-apocalyptic setting than NV did. NV does bring a few welcome gameplay changes though.. they're both quite good and worth buying, think I spent more time with FO3 myself.

I preferred Fallout 3 to New Vegas. The wasteland has more varied terrain and feels like it was built with much more care and attention. Plus there is still nothing as striking as seeing D.C. in ruin. New Vegas has a lot more nods and references to the previous games in the series than FO3 does though, so if you've been a fan of the series for a long time then you'll get some extra enjoyment out of it.

I do love both games though, I think everyone would agree that FO3 is the better title.

New Vegas' gameplay is better there are loads of great mods, however, I do like the setting much more in Fallout 3. As someone mentioned earlier, it's clear that considerable amounts of care and love was put into that game (FO3). You really should get both, but perhaps start with FO3 since it's older.

I love them both. Fallout 3 GoTY with all the DLC's is really great. I went back to playing it after 2 years to be able to complete those DLCs.

I kind of prefer New Vegas because it tends to be less depressing. Perhaps because it's brighter and offers a better range of music (which I love).

If you haven't played any of them, I suggest you buy both and start with Fallout 3 and attach all the DLC's to it.

Three dog...

Haha. Yeah.

"I'm your friendly neighborhood disc jockey. What's a disc? Hell if I know, but I'm gonna keep talking anyway."

Fallout 3 was the better game. Although, if you're running Windows 7 I don't know how compatible it is. You might just have to change the compatibility mode or something. I thought I would just mention it.

I've played the f++k out of them both (they're my favorite games) and i can say that Fallout 3 ha a better story while New Vegas has a lot of in-game additions and improvements but storyline is a bit boring and not as engaging as Fallout 3's one.

So if you have to choose one, i'd go with fallout 3

Fallout 3, even though it has lots of bugs, but with some patches some bugs were able to get fixed, even though when it comes to story, and game mechanics i would go with fallout 3, but the game is just great, believe me fallout new Vegas is good but if you want a rich story and great game mechanic go with fallout 3.

    • No. The file manager is a lost cause. After all, its dev receives all the undeserved praise he could evre wish from Neowin, without having actually earned it. This has never lead to improvements.
