Why the HELL is Guardian Edge (Now Symantec Endpoint Protection) So slow?

Question

Due to our parent companies IT policies, our IT dept uses Guarianedge to encrypt laptop drives. I recently had my 2nd 7200rpm drive fail in my laptop (dell E6410), and so I was issued a Sandisk 128GB SATA3 drive. I wasn't able to benchmark it before it was installed and imaged, but from the reviews online, it operates up to 400MBps. Since my Laptop only supports SATA2, lets average this and say I should expect 150-200MBps. read and/or write speeds. However, this is not the case, and infact the SSD runs JUST as fast, as a 7200rpm drive, minus the faster access times. Can anyone explain this? Compared to Truecrypt (full drive), the performance is horrible. Someone else just got a 256GB SSD installed, and IT benchmarked it before and after applying Guardian Edge...they confirmed that after encryption, the drive performance was ~20% of the original speeds.

My coworkers 7200rpm 250GB SATA2 drive encrypted with Guardian Edge:

Hasn't your company ever heard of Bitlocker?

Our company has, and I've recommended it or truecrypt to IT, but our parent company Lockheed insists on using GuardianEdge because of it's "central management server"....whatever. It's almost pointless having an SSD with this garbage, only advantage is my data is immune to shock impacts to the laptop if dropped or moved while on.

As for bitlocker, they dont' want to spend the $ to upgrade everyone from XP to Vista or 7

sounds like an excuse to me

now is the best time to start upgrading the systems to 7, almost every business in my area including schools are starting to upgrade

Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. The Tor software protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody from watching your Internet connection and learning what sites you visit, it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location, and it lets you access sites which are blocked. The Tor Browser Bundle lets you use Tor on Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux without needing to install any software. It can run off a USB flash drive, comes with a pre-configured web browser to protect your anonymity, and is self-contained. • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
