Which 3D Glasses for this TV ?

Recommended Posts

We have just got a 40" Toshiba 40TL868B 3D LED LCD and was playing around with the 3D settings which are SBS and TAB 3D and apparently the 3D glasses I kept from the cinema are not the right ones, I need active shutter glasses ? Anyway, I found a few going for around ?30 on Amazon, question is will any 3D Active Shutter Glasses work with my new telly or do I need to buy the Toshiba ones like it says in the manual?

I ask because companies will always try to sell you their own ?80 product when a ?30 generic one will work

Also it has a USB 2.0 port for wireless, it also says I need the Toshiba wireless dongle and this time I'm wondering if that could be the case due to drivers

Anyone know any different to the manual ? :)

lol, yea I know, I already said that bit !

I was asking if I can buy ANY active 3d glasses or if I need the toshiba ones :)

Apparently there is an IR sensor that the glasses talk to the TV with, so if it is tied to the TV like the remote is, I would either need to tune them in, or have specific brand glasses

You will need to buy the ones made for your tv, such is the burden of having 3d :( Different manufacturers have different standards etc and are thus not inter-changable.The ones that are sold as multi format are generally inferior, a mate of mine can testify to this as he bought a set of Eurotek and they were crap, he spent that money and then more buying a set for his Sammy

Ah damn, thought as much, was I right in thinking its because of it using the IR sensor ?

If so, are there no universal glasses similar to how universal remotes tune into any tv ?

where do you get that idea from? totally not true, you only need the correct type

He may not have been completely correct, but not all active 3d glasses will work with his tv. Here is a brand on amazon that should work

Thanks, so I just need to find compatible with my model tv active glasses then, not one specific type

Correct, just google your tv model and some results should pop up

Sweet, thanks for that, and how about the wireless dongle, Im guessing that's going to be more specific due to drivers ?

Remembered about my mini wifi usb dongle and just tried it, no go, so I guess it does need one the tv already has the drivers for

yes for wireless dongles you have to buy specific due to drivers, i just bout a wireless dongle for my samsung home theater system recently, i had to buy the specific $70 samsung dongle :/

Damn, don't fancy that idea, I might swot up on using an old router as a wireless bridge and use that instead, that's what some of the raspberry pi guys are using rather than setting up wifi all the time

Another option is a 3d Bluray player with wifi built in.

Do they have a USB > USB to share the wifi ?

I have a wireless Roku LT but it only connects via HDMI so I'm still limiited to net on the Roku box that way

I just grabbed an old adsl router, set up as an AP and disabled wifi, then used it as a switch to extend 2 cables to the TV for now, does the job :)

that will work :) . one other option is that whole ethernet over hdmi. I am not sure of the requirements as far as hardware is concernced but there are def hdmi cables that can also pass 1 network signal to another device (usually shared between a tv/bluray player).

edit - seems the tvs/bluray players are rare that support the HEC technology. nevermind!

wow I didn't know that your could send Ethernet over HDMI, I don't think my tv supports it or I'd have seen it in the manual, and never seen anything about my GPUs supporting it either, but nice tip thanks, I`ll keep an eye out for that it would be very handy

    • The site is pretty sparse on features / tech specs. Can I plug it into a PC/hone/Switch via USB-C and use it as an external display? If so, what's the virtual resolution of the screen, the refresh rate, PPI of the image etc? Is the text crisp enough to use for coding at say 12pt? Is it good enough for playing dark games, like say Path of Exile 2? How about fast games like car racing games? Just how do they expect anyone to order this thing without giving out all this info?
