Retina Macbook Pro audio problem

Recommended Posts

So suddenly I found my speakers to be hyper active.. they seemed to crack everytime I open a folder, start an audio clip... whether it's youtube or a movie or mp3. It always cracks once or twice before the audio starts. Is this a wide known problem? I really don't want to send my macbook in as in 2 weeks I"ll be starting school and I"ll need it for my classes. I've tried muting but it still cracks. The sound is small and subtle but yet annoying.

It may be that one or both of the speakers are duds... I'd go down the the Apple Store (since it's only a few weeks old they should actually replace the system instead of sending it off)

So I guess this isn't normal. I don't know what to do really. As I said I need my macbook for school in 2 weeks. So the only option is either keep it or my local apple store must have it in stock (which usually it does not). I can't order a new one because it is going to take longer than 2 weeks even if it's for a replacement. I don't know what to do guys. Any suggestions? The whole computer works fine.. it's just that little bit of annoyance. Kind of like a bug annoying you.

First, it's to your benefit that you stop wasting time posting here and take it to the Apple Store asap. Have someone at the genius bar take a look, run some tests, and let them diagnose the problem. It could be as simple as reinstalling OSX to fix the problem. I'm not sure whether the speakers are soldered in like most of the other components on the rMBP, but if they can fix it at the store, then good for you. Otherwise, the only way to fix a hardware issue is to send it in for repair and they will offer you a loaner. If they decide that the entire laptop needs to be replaced, they usually will let you keep the current one and mail it back to them when the replacement comes.

But in any case, the only way you will know all your options is by going to the store and have them assess the situation.

So just went there and they said the speakers must be replaced. They offered me a new one (but I'll need to go through the Apple store to replace and wait the same 3-4 weeks for delivery.) or just repair the speakers. I chose just to repair the speakers because there's really no problem with the system right now. Also, I can't wait 3-4 weeks because I"ll need my laptop at school. Everything works great.... except that clicking sound. They told me I'll just keep my laptop till the replacement parts come in a few days.
