According to the article:

Note that the application only works on the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 8 RTM. We were not able to successfully run it on Windows 8 Release Preview, so it?s safe to assume that this utility is aimed at users of the more recent versions of the new operating system.

All this crap should have been optional in the first place, implemented properly by Microsoft. As it is right now, disabling these things indeed cripple the OS, due to (intentionally) horrible horrible design by Microsoft.

As per the video posted on their download page, it doesn't seem to do what it does in a very elegant way, you can even get to see the start screen for a few seconds before it takes you to the desktop, I like Windows 8 as it is too, but even if I was to disable the new Modern UI features I still wouldn't like the way this program works, not bad I guess but far from being excellent at what it does.
