just download the msi again, and then you can point to it to uninstall

You can extract the msi from the exe.. this method is normally used for deployment in a domain. Are you in a domain - I would check with your admins before installing/uninstalling anything on company desktop.

you can find the java 6 update 25 x64 offline exe here.

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jre-6u25-oth-JPR

Here is info about how to extract

how did you get a msi install?? Strange - was it installed as part of a package? Either way you can download the offline exe and extra the msi, then when you go to uninstall it just point to where you extracted the msi too, etc.

Just grab the offline - do an install, have it reinstall, etc. Then uninstall it and you should be good.

NO You don't -- you just need to accept the license.. I don't have an oracle account that is for damn sure.

edit: Hmmm that is new, must be for the older copies.. Just sign up for one they are FREE, use some dummy info if you want.

edit2: If you don't want to do that grab it from oldapps

I think I need the 64-bit version of what I just done.

I got a box from Windows Installer stating:

The file

'C:\Users\Kaplan\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_25\jre1.6.0_25.msi' is not a valid installation package for the product Java 6 Update 25 (64-bit). Try to find the installation package 'jre1.6.0_25.msi' in a folder from which you can install Java 6 Update 25 (64-bit).

    • There is but look up training videos to do data analysis in Excel v the app they use in libre office? Don't even know the name. Besides we are talking about govt employees. Have you tried explaining command line to a govt employee? Look I respect the people but I know that they could not be bothered with open source
    • Let's see how long this lasts. In the end, it comes down to productivity lost because of workflow disruptions. It's not even a question of "which is better", rather how painful will it be to switch and it's hard enough for a single person to switch - imagine an entire city's bureaucracy. Remember, there are governmental system in the US that are still using 5.25" floppy disks... Having been involved in these kinds of swaps, I can tell you - it's never as easy as the fanbase thinks it is.
    • Right, saw it in the microsoft blog, wasn't mentioned in the article, thanks.
