I am looking to buy a fully modular PSU, but I don't want to pay over ?65/$100.

The only one I can find for under ?100 is the OCZ ZT Series 550w, which is around ?57/$90.

Are there any alternatives?

EDIT: When I say cheap, I don't mean an unknown brand. I'd still only go with a reputable brand :)

Always go to quality over cheapness on a PSU. You should find a quality one then hunt the discounts on that brand or model.

I know but to be fair, most cheap brands won't make fully modular PSUs.

They're semi-modular, not fully.

Never scrimp on the most important part of your computer. A quality power supply adds life and stability. I agree, find the quality one you want and search for discounts.

Side note: I am not sure the words 'cheap' and 'fully modular power supply' have ever been seen together in the wild. ;)

If you can squeeze another ?8, there is a corsair 550w

Ah damn, looks like OCZ is your best bet then, I wish I had gone modular every time I rebuild my machine, it's like trying to cable manage Medusa

Yeah, that's right.

Maybe I'll just go semi-modular instead, they're cheaper (of course).

Not including Powercool (I don't trust that brand), the prices are (prices inc. VAT):

?50 - OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W (semi-modular)

?55 - OCZ Fatal1ty 550W (semi-modular)

?57 - OCZ ZT Series 550w (fully modular)

?60 - Silverstone ST50F-P Strider 500W (fully modular)

?61 - OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W (semi-modular)

?68 - Antec HCG 520W (semi-modular)

?69 - OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W (semi-modular)

EDIT: Added the OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W and Silverstone ST50F-P Strider 500W.

Nope, semi-modular again.

Also, that's ?79 inc. VAT, which is too expensive.

Really? I can't see anywhere that says that, it was listed under Modular vs the others under Semi

As a gamer or case modder, modular cabling is a necessity when building a cool and orderly system. To optimize airflow and eliminate cable mazes, the ModXStream Pro is equipped with EZMod technology to allow complete customization of your power system by utilizing only the cables you require.

Weird, I got ?79 the first time.

But yeh, OCZ OCZ700MXSP-UK is semi-modular as far as I am aware.

They should advertise it more clearly, shouldn't have to google model numbers to see if it has a big cable sticking out the side lol

novatech.co.uk was my next stop but looks like their cheapest modular is ?95

As an owner of the OCZ Modxstream Pro 700W, it is a decent power supply. It's about 86% efficient (carries the 80+ badge), and it's cheap! It's not fully modular, as you mentioned, but it does cut down on the cable mess!

Which is the modular part?

Here you go, a really really good power supply - Enermax NAXN 82+ 650 W PC Power Supply (ENP650-AWT) for ?50:

That's not even semi-modular, let alone fully modular :p

The best bet if u want fully modular would be the OCZ ZT series. But again it doesn't matter if the ATX plug is not modular, because you have to use that one anyways :p

Is it only the ATX plug that is not modular on all of the semi modular PSUs ? I was wondering if it was a necessary cable anyway

Isn't that needed for all motherboards?

I currently have a two-year-old Asus P7H55-M SI (LGA 1156) motherboard for my Core i5-750 that uses the PSU's ATX connector to power it.

To be fair, it's a huge connector so if it has been fazed out in the past 2 years, I'll be glad.

Yea its needed for all motherboards, I meant I wondered if the non-modular cable was a necessary cable as you can't see the plug end in the pics :)

edit: never mind

Ah yes, that's ?60/$95 here. It's within budget.

Most semi modular have the ATX and one or two 8 pin or (4+4) motherboard connectors. And even on fully modualr its still required because a system will need it :p

This is my choice:

Seasonic M12II 650w

Yea I know the ATX + CPU leads are required, I just didn't know if they were the ones attached to a semi-modular PSU :)
