Bypass Metro UI while login (Windows Server 2012 like)

and get rid of all those nice Metro transition effects when going into your start screen. Just use the darn OS like it was intended or stay with Windows 7, it really is that simple, and if you like the enhancements that come with Windows 8, simply use it.

I myself, am on Windows 7, I cannot for the life of me get a hold of a license, otherwise I would likely get rid of Windows 7, and just use Windows 8.

What's wrong with someone modifying their OS to their liking?

What about you just stop telling others what to do with their own PCs.

finaly some positiv feedback. therefore it bothers nearly every power user... it seems that nobody cares about (imho) the real deal. with no extra tool or anything else.

there are plenty of tools and workarounds and it seemed that nobody was interessted in this anymore.

i will release a tutorial and my script (i guess) next week.

real description (can't edit the first post anymore):

I searched the hole web to find an answer how to bypass Metro UI after Logon.

Metro can be nice, but as a 'Poweruser' you don't need it in the first place.

Microsofts last statement is there is no way to avoid Metro UI while login.

Right. Becaus they have some kind of policy in the System which doesen't allow the user to login directly to Desktop.

In result I only found the known workarounds like

  • creating a scheduler task
  • autorun or statup routine
  • some scr workaround
  • metro suite
  • etc. etc.

They all have three things in common

  • start a task
  • splash Metro UI for at least a second
  • desktop keeps loading the interface

It all works in some way, but... not in the way it could be.

It's all nice, and also credit for all of you, but as we can see Windows Server 2012 has this 'fast and fluid' logon experience many of us want to have.

Now, I think I found a/the nativ way and (very best) solution.

(IMHO it only can be better if Microsoft releases some kind of undocumented/secret registry value to skip Metro UI)

It's no patch, no editing of files, no replacement from any other Windows System.

Just a script with pretty normal actions and many kinds of errorhandling.

After it's running, it just feels like the Windows Server 2012 login experience.

Please pause the video at the beginning and read the in-description. You can than still skip to 2:45 to see the real sign-in experience.

In addition to the Metro UI bypass script I may will provide some more nice registry tweaks which might be interessting.

we care, you dont have many reply's because:

1. you haven't released anything and youtube is filled with that kind of videos and they are just the skip metro programs (classic shell, start8, ....)

2. Big % of the people using classic shell, start8, ... dont really care about another program to do the same thing (even if its better)

Personally i want your script, after you release it you will see that many also will

Waiting news from you, great work

I definitely want this script. I personally think the current solutions are dirty hacks and workarounds at best. Yours definitely looks like an actual solution, and I'd definitely use it, I don't mind the start screen but I hate not booting right to the desktop.

Does your solution involve patching any files or replacing them? MS included a complex license checking scheme to make sure that only Windows Server can skip the Start screen.

nope. it's like a 'file not found'.

atm i don't have much time, because i have to finish a project.

I want to release the script with uninstall option so this will take an additional day

I also have to test one issue a friend told me about post-install with windows updates (some cryptic build string)

but I don't think this really is an issue.

(Un)fortunatly it's a pretty easy understandable script. It's just the combination of some commands and little deeper understanding of windows since vista.

@effects. - after the first logon and switching into metro there is no transition effect - but with hitting the windows key a second time it is. - but this wasn't expect it's just a little bonus.

please contact me via PM if you're interessted in testing.

3 guys tested. 3 successed

Note: Windows will lose activated state, but you can just re-activate it.

It only loses activated status on Retail or MAK, for some reason KMS keeps its activation, but that could be KMS caching doing that.

    • This had nothing to do with games. This is all about management wanting to squeeze as much money from Xbox to keep Microsoft's AI ambitions afloat. Someone has to make money to burn on AI.

The Ultra 9 185H features 16 cores and 22 threads running at up to 5.1 GHz. It also includes a dedicated NPU utilizing Intel AI Boost at 11 TOPS. On the graphics front, the 185H includes the still fairly capable ARC Graphics (not to be confused with the newer ARC 140T) integrated GPU with a max GPU frequency of 2350 MHz across 8 Xe-cores. It has been said that the iGPU is equivalent to the NVIDIA GeForce 3050 and GTX 1650 in gaming and synthetic benchmarks. Other highlights include an AMOLED display, LPDDR5x memory at 7467 MT/s, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and a fingerprint sensor built into the power button. AI PC? Although the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H includes a dedicated NPU, it's only 11 TOPS; therefore, it does not qualify as a Copilot+ PC. However, it can reach up to 33 TOPS with a combination of NPU, CPU, and GPU. As I said, although we only reviewed the X14 Pro, the unboxing is the same for the X16 Pro, which I noted in my review. The packaging is quite a nice experience. The outer box houses the X16 Pro box with a small compartment that contains the 5-in-1 Dock ($40 value), which appears to be an "Early Bird" inclusion. Upon removing the box cover, the X16 Pro is revealed sitting in a cardboard compartment with two small booklets of documentation. To the left of the X16 Pro are two cardboard compartments containing the 65W charger and Type-C USB cable. What’s In The Box 1 x GEEKOM X16 Pro Ultra-thin Laptop 1 x Type-C to Type-C cable 1.8M 1 x 65W GaN PD Fast Charger 1 x Warranty Card 1 x Thank You Card 1 x User Guide All products sold by GEEKOM receive a 3-year free Warranty from the date you receive the product.
