Are you upgrading from the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 5?

Recommended Posts

I was swaying towards Yes for a while, as I've previously owned the iPhone 3G, iPhone 4 and now iPhone 4S.

I have decided not to upgrade for the following reasons:

  • 99% of the software features appear to be available on the iPhone 4S (which is a strange, but nice decision by Apple I feel)
  • The camera is the main reason I upgrade the model each time. Although improved, there isn't a large difference in it this time around.
  • This is the first 16 GB iPhone (the one I choose) for many years that is over ?499 (it is ?529).
  • I have many accessories for my iPhone 4S, including a ?25 Speck case, a ?30 external battery, a ?3 car windscreen mount, a ?3 bicycle mount etc. These would all need replacing.
  • LTE isn't available in my area, and won't be for a long while.

The iPhone 5 is a lovely phone and I would love to own it (mainly for HD FaceTime and the better low-light camera performance compared to the iPhone 4S), but I can't justify the cost -- I could probably sell my 4S (inc. all accessories) for around ?330, which means I'd have to pay ?200 and re-buy a new iPhone 5-compatible case, external battery, car windscreen mount, bicycle mount etc.

So, I was just curious as to your personal reasons for upgrading or not :)

no i will never ever use a nother iphone I had the iphone 3 and then went to android never looked back

Then this topic clearly isn't for you.

Some people will do anything to troll :(

My wife and I are waiting for the 5S. One of my biggest reasons is AT&T doesn't have LTE in our city yet (Verizon does but we don't want to switch). iOS 6 has been pretty nice on the 4S so far as well. In addition, we have some accessories (Bose SoundDock especially) that has the "old" connector. Just not ready to bail on some of those things yet.

Plus, I'm kind of partial to the smaller screen

whats the point for the 5 there trying to beat galaxy 3 and if u have a 4s dont need to upgrade if u do all new stuff like cases ect ect ect waste oh fn cash unless ur rich

Jesus... :(

Called my carrier, it would be $250 upgrade or so to go from my 64GB 4S to a 16GB iPhone5 (this is presuming my 4S will sell on the street for $550).. The main fee is the contract buyout. I am only 11 months into a 36 month contract now, as I got the 4S on launch just about a year ago Middle of October. That was $983 out of my pocket at the time... 64GB FTW

I feel the 5S or 6 will be out before another 25 months are up. I can't do $1000 of phones and eat $500 of that every year. It don't make sense!

I won't be. I'd have to buy out the remainder of my current contact with Telus, buy the iPhone 5 at the subsidized price, and sign another 3-year contract.

I feel lucky that I bought the iPhone 3G in full (?499) and I'm on a cheap SIM-only 1-month rolling contact.

So any at point, I can sell my phone and buy a new one.

    • @goretsky I will keep those in mind for the calls we get and update our technicians with the list, im sure the list will grow and I hope there is a larger public statement on this.  Here is the statement from Huntress https://www.huntress.com/blog/klue-breach-investigation
    • But we are talking about Elon Musk, no AT&T... I know big companies are evil, but Elon and his companies are in another level which is much more dangerous.
    • New PowerToys update fixes memory leaks and other issues by Taras Buria Another bug-fixing update is available for PowerToys version 0.100. After releasing version 0.100.1 with a bunch of bug fixes and patches, Microsoft pushed version 0.100.2 to address two important issues with one of Command Palette Dock's features. With PowerToys 0.100.2, Microsoft fixed the performance meter displaying incorrect values and memory leaks, which are particularly unwanted things in the current situation with overpriced PC hardware. Here is the changelog: Reverted a Performance Monitor dock refresh change that forced item refreshes on every metric update Fixed a memory leak in the Performance Monitor dock extension by reusing stable network upload/download band items instead of creating new list items on each refresh For those unfamiliar, Command Palette Dock is a relatively new addition to PowerToys. It is a taskbar-like tool that you can keep on top of the screen to pin various useful widgets, commands, and more. It can display time, weather, your PC's performance metrics, and more. Microsoft introduced the Command Palette Dock in March 2026 in PowerToys 0.98. Microsoft has dedicated documentation for Command Palette Dock, and you can check it out on the official Microsoft Learn website. You can update PowerToys to the latest version by going to Settings > General and clicking "Check for updates." Alternatively, you can download the installer from GitHub using this link. In other news, Microsoft is working on a new window-management utility for PowerToys. Called Alt Window Cycle, it will let you use the Alt + ` shortcut to switch between different windows in a single app. You can learn more about the tool here.
    • You did take leaf out of Trumps book already and had brexit - only to harm yourself. The same goes with this AI nonsense. The obvious solution for these companies is to move their head office to Brussels. I can see quite much irony there... 🙂
