Best Earphones for about

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I'm looking for a decent pair of earphones, mainly to use with my iphone 5, and sometimes on my laptop.

Budget around ?50-?60, maybe a bit more depending how good they are.

I previously had a pair of shure se530s which I loved, but broke. I'd love a new pair of shure se535s or even the denon ahd5000s, but I cant afford that kind of money for a long time.

Sound quality is important, I like a balanced sound, with decent bass, and a good sound stage.

What can you recommend?

Cheers, Jason

Another vote for the S4.

I have them myself and they are also offered with mic and iPod controls, which is awesome with an iPhone. (Y)

I've always liked SkullCandy, always seem to have very good sound reproduction.

Uhm, SkullCandy is not exactly known for quality in the sound department, but rather in the looks department.

Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with buying them if you really like the looks of them and the sound is okay for you, but you shouldn't really put them in the best bang for your money category sound-wise. ;)

Earphones or Headphones?

Well, he asked for earphones in the headline and the post, so I guess earphones it is no?

I've got a lovely old set of Klipsh S3's that I got for a bargain that have the best sound I've heard for <?50, so I'd highly recommend Klipsh. I've heard some very good things about the S4's as well and they can be had for ?35 ish.

My GF has a set of skullcandy's and I found them uncomfortable, with too much bass overpowering (overcompensating?) everything.

Hey, for under ?80 I'd recommend these:

- Creative Aurvana Live

- Grado SR-60i

- Sony MDR-V6

- Superlux 668B or 681 (very cheap)

Though these are based on sound quality and not isolation or portability. Perhaps you should look at some Klipsch S4 or S2 earbuds.

one question to ask though is how much physical activity you plan on doing while using the earphones. if you're using them on your iphone while walking around (or even exercising), you'll obviously want to find a set that'll stay in your ear well.

ive had many sets that work well while idle but fall out as soon as you start moving. anyway, i had a set of Etymotics but had to stop using them. i couldnt get used to any of the included buds - the standard 'drill your brain' type nor the foam tips.

my HTC Rezound came w/ a set of Beats. they produced fantastic sound, but were fragile. i ended up killing them w/ sweat at the gym :pinch: :x

I recently bought a pair of the Klipsch S4 earphones and they sound pretty good. I haven't really broken them in yet, so I'm sure the sound will get better with time.

I've also had a pair of V-Moda Vibe earphones for the past few years, which sound really really good. The bass response is much better than the S4, so far.

    • Didn’t Dbrand once complain that Casetify was ripping off their designs a well? seems pretty bad of them to try and get around Valve’s copyright this way with that in mind.
    • Dbrand thought they could get away with this Steam Machine case, Valve disagreed by David Uzondu Image via Dbrand Dbrand has cancelled its highly anticipated Companion Cube enclosure for the Valve Steam Machine, which it teased back in November of last year with a concept render and sign-up page, because it did not ask Valve for permission first before manufacturing the case. According to Dbrand, it took the "backwards approach" of building the product first before asking for permission from the copyright holder. Seven months of work went into the project, requiring over a thousand engineering hours from the design team. Workers developed forty-four sets of injection molding tools, making a unique mold for each sub-component of the crate. When the Companion Cube went live on Monday last week, it, according to Dbrand, quickly became the second-fastest-selling product in the company's fifteen-year history, racking up orders for hundreds of thousands of units. Customers eagerly bought the $129.95 deluxe edition or the bare-bones $99.95 version, which the manufacturer cheekily branded as the "Poverty Cube". It was around this time that the legal eagles at Valve descended on the accessory maker with a formal demand. The developer pointed out that the iconic block design remains protected intellectual property from the game Portal, so unlicensed sales had to stop. Dbrand said that all its pleas to salvage the project with the Valve team, including proposals to run a properly licensed release under official terms "with their blessing", fell on deaf ears, so it had no choice but to obey and remove every trace of the product from the internet. If you bought the enclosure, the company said that banks will process your refund by the end of this week, but if it still hasn't arrived in your account by then, you should not hesitate to contact support. The Steam Machine itself is a high-performance console that Valve designed directly to bring PC gaming into the living room. It was announced on 12th November 2025 (the same day Dbrand announced the Cube) and runs on the Linux-based SteamOS, the same OS that powers the Steam Deck. As for the price, due to the shortage of memory and storage chips, the hardware cost landed much higher than people were expecting, starting at $1,049 for the 512 model (without a controller) or $1,128 with the new gamepad. The premium 2 TB model pushes those prices even higher, selling at $1,349 for the standalone console and hitting $1,428 if you want the bundle.
    • It's listed #399.99 on Amazon, per your link. It's not $299.99.
