Here are some DLL files from 4051 that contain more icon's and bitmaps incase Windows_X or anyone else can use them.. The zip file includes:

basebrd.dll

browseui.dll

imageres.dll

and sidebardata.txt - just some sidebar tile code that I came across and thought someone might wanna mess around with it.

Download them HERE

can you post the Explorer.exe? :ninja:

because that is a shot of aero...note the trans in the bottom in the bottom right corner and the cool gradients everywhere...and as far as i know, current VS building software wouldn't let you make a title bar like that with the PNG's ...i could be wrong however. ;)

[edit] thank god they are finally switching to high res PNG's ;) ;) [/edit]

Well yeah okay, but you can still make the blue interface with those square close, min and max buttons and stuff.... And as for the transparancy you can use a app to do that ;)

dunno if this'll help, but here's the slate.msstyles file from longhorn 4051.

Just a heads up - IT DOESN'T WORK ON XP by itself, but it has most of the slate theme inside.

Longhorn 4051 Slate Theme from Longhorn 4051, actual MS file

doesnt work by its self? what else do i need? :p

This theme is superb, seriously, I'm impressed how quickly and effectively you did this WindowsX.

Anyone find the black clashes with Neowin somewhat? Blue will be better, I think.

PS: WindowsX: If you're tired go sleep for a while. Your health is way more important than some theme, and I don't think sleeping for two hours a day is really too good an idea.

Well, I just searched through the DLL's and explorer.exe that have been posted in this thread, and there's nothing really exciting in any of them.

Here's what I found that was kinda neat:

- some icons were rendered huge, lik 256x256 or bigger.

- there seem to be icons corresponding to stacks of documents. Perhaps this relates to MS's implementation of 'stacks' that was posted on the front page?

That's about it. Nothing else seemed changed from the XP files.

    • Not such a great deal, Ultimate, which gives you full 5080 features is $181.99 CAD per month, that's $2183.88 per year, I can buy the 5080 for $1809.99 CAD, then it goes up to $279.99 per month after the first billing cycle. Typical cloud rental, costs more than buying the hardware.

    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
