Can someone download this MP3 from this tricky URL?

Question

Having problems downloading the .MP3 file from this URL. A .wax file keeps popping up.

http://www.euskadikoorkestra.es:1755/EO_audios/ondarra031012.mp3?MSWMExt=.asf

http://10.128.3.175:1755/EO_audios/ondarra031012.mp3?MSWMExt=.asf

http://82.223.131.30:1755/EO_audios/ondarra031012.mp3?MSWMExt=.asf

I had trouble even resolving its IP without a little sniffing. Dont know why its hiding so much.

Can someone tell me how to do it?

Thank you Neowin :)

Post the URL here

http://www.euskadikoorkestra.es:1755/EO_audios/ondarra031012.mp3

Then right click > save as ?

lol, nope

Put it into a DL manager ?

Tried them all in IDM, the first one picks up the wax file and downloads it, with the second two it picks up the mp3 files but it won't download them it just sticks at "connecting".

EDIT: My bad, just noticed the 3rd link also gives the .wax file so maybe the 2nd link is the best to try and get it from.

Try taking your first link and remove ?MSWMExt=.asf from the end, then try the remaining URL all the way up to .mp3 in the DL manager

Still gets stuck at connecting, left it for a minute and eventually it gave an error saying that it couldn't connect to the server

Play it with the browser and check temp internet files for the .mp3 ?

EDIT - Maybe something like Audacity and Stereo Mix will be able to record it while its streaming

It's still just the wax fi

Still just the wax file :( I agree best way to get it would probably just be free audio recording software and just record it from the stream.

If I remove the ?MSWMExt=.asf from the URL and paste it into the address bar in Firefox, it prompts to download the MP3 just fine for me.

Same for me in Chrome, but when I try and play the file in WMP it just says that it encountered a problem and can't play it, plus the MP3 is only 1Kb. Could just be a problem with Chrome though.

How big is the wax file ? Can't you rename / convert to .mp3 ? (Not sure what wax files are)

The wax file is only 1Kb as well, I hadn't encountered it before either but it appears to just allow a stream of the song to your media player. Checked the properties in WMP but the location still points to the wax file :(

Ohh well I'm away to the pub, good luck!

The .wax file is just a shortcut thing for Windows Media Player or whatever you use, to stream the audio, I guess.

Damn I remember I used to be able to use Vista's WMP to download those files that stream instead of download. Forgot the method. :(

http://www.euskadiko.../es/default.asp

Can't understand the website. I don't know that language.

Oh, the website has this music player thing on the left. Its the same audio.

Download them as .wax files and use Freemake Audio Converter (http://www.freemake....udio_converter/) to convert them into .mp3 :)

If you read previously, the .wax files are basically redirects/shortcuts/whatever.

The .wax file is a kickstarter for your media player. It's a secure server and the only way to get it is by phreaking and if I am not mistaken, it is against the Neowin rules. You can save the stream though. That's the only somewhat legal way of getting it.

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
