Can someone download this MP3 from this tricky URL?

Question

Having problems downloading the .MP3 file from this URL. A .wax file keeps popping up.

http://www.euskadikoorkestra.es:1755/EO_audios/ondarra031012.mp3?MSWMExt=.asf

http://10.128.3.175:1755/EO_audios/ondarra031012.mp3?MSWMExt=.asf

http://82.223.131.30:1755/EO_audios/ondarra031012.mp3?MSWMExt=.asf

I had trouble even resolving its IP without a little sniffing. Dont know why its hiding so much.

Can someone tell me how to do it?

Thank you Neowin :)

Thanks to everyone trying :) I have no idea why something so simple is trying to hide itself.

The .wax file is a kickstarter for your media player. It's a secure server and the only way to get it is by phreaking and if I am not mistaken, it is against the Neowin rules. You can save the stream though. That's the only somewhat legal way of getting it.

Secure server? What?

Ive tried; This just gives the wax file.

Maybe I can try my old Windows Vista WMP method of downloading from a stream. This laptop i'm using in bed has 7 so I can't do it here, and i'm about to go to sleep.

Took me bloody ages, mainly because I refused to look at a guide but eventually caved, I managed to stream and save it via VLC and then convert it to a MP3.

Thank you Grayscale for the idea, had forgot just how much VLC let you do.

Have you tried streaming and recording it on VLC? I'm on my way to bed now but try that and see if it'll work.

I know this is possible but I perfer the original MP3....

That doesnt work to download the MP3

The other reason I want to download the original is because I just put one mp3 but there are others and the second one is LONG so saving it in VLC/Goldwave/etc is taking ages as I have to sit thru the whole ****ing MP3....

The third one is even LONGER than the first two....

Here's the mp3.

https://rapidshare.com/files/2353477449/Padre Nuestro.mp3

(copy entire line and paste, if the link doesn't show up properly in my post)

It appears to be a two minute clip by the Basque National Orchestra.

Lorenzo Ondarra (artist?) Padre Nuestro (name of clip?)

I think it's from a work by Johannes Brahms. Opus 73.

Link doesn't work. :(

h**ps://rapidshare.com/files/2353477449/Padre Nuestro.mp3

Try the above, putting https in place of h**ps.

I was able to get the files by pulling them out of the temp internet files and renaming the dat to mp3, but it's distorted for some reason, maybe someone else can work from that, I'm tired.

Yup, same thing happened here. Distorted....

The links I put are all the same; Just as soon as I can get one to work, I can get all to download.

I think the reason why it is so difficult is because although it is hosted on say

http://83.45.23.54/somefile.mp3

it is actually hosted on a VPN connection that is

http://10.16.10.4/somefile.mp3

and obviously only the server knows how to get their because it is a VPN client. Is it possible?

? What the **** is Neowin doing with MP3 links?

Re: ? What the **** is Neowin doing with MP3 links?

The links are only to freely offered clips meant to advertise an upcoming concert, not to any complete material. So, I think it should be all right.

Maybe a moderator can step up and give us some guidance here.

I'll have a look into this a bit later but i gather it's to do with the headers you need to tell it you're a player of some sort e.g. "User-Agent: NSPlayer/12.0.7600.16385"

here is a sniffed request

What is this before I download it?

threads merged

don't cross-post the same question in different sections

The problem is I dont know if this is a network issue or if its a software issue. Sorry about that!

Which? And how did you do it so I can do it for the rest?

I too would be interested in knowing how it was done, was it a direct copy, a re-encode? etc?

Teach a man to fish and all that jazz.

    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
