Metro: Last Light will no longer include a multiplayer component when it launches early next year, developer 4A Games announced today on the game's official blog. Multiplayer had previously been revealed soon after the game's 2011 announcement, something the blog notes was "probably a mistake."

"Throughout the development of Metro: Last Light a small, dedicated team had been working on a number of multiplayer prototypes," the entry reads. "After E3, we decided to fold this multiplayer team back into the main group and focus 100% of the studio's resources on the single player campaign. As a result, Metro: Last Light will not ship with a multiplayer component." 4A Games believes that the game's single-player campaign is "what the fanbase cares about the most."

Whether multiplayer will be added post-launch as DLC or an update is uncertain. "Right now we're 100% focused on the single player campaign and not thinking beyond that. We don't like throwing away work though, it's a project we could potentially return to after Metro: Last Light ships."

Bueno! Screw tacked on MP.

I'm glad they did this. There's no need for multi-player in a game that focuses so much on the single-player experience.

It's like Mass Effect 3. Nobody is going to buy it for the multiplayer if it's not CoD, BF, CS, etc.

I'm just glad they realised that and didn't end up forcing their players to play it to complete the game.

I actually support this because assuming the gameplay is similar to the previous game, I wouldn't have any interest in a multiplayer aspect.

While it shouldn't have been a key component, it could have been a cool optional extra, such as you play a Metro Guard, in a small team defending the a Metro entrance from various waves of enemies.

I hope there will be more stealth scenes.

The best parts of the first game were the stealth parts like hole station, the bandit stations and the front line.

Good riddance to a needless repetitive multiplayer mode

Did you even read the OP? You want them to do exactly what they said they didn't want to do. Ok.

It annoys me that the announced reason for the delay to next year was the addition of multiplayer and now it turns out it won't be included at all. They should have been honest about the reason for the delay and this makes the studio look incompetent.

That said, I am still very much looking forward to Metro: Last Light. I thought that Metro 2033 was an excellent game and the early gameplay video they put out for the sequel looked great.

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
