OH2D
Hey guys. I had a friend that i did a build for about 2 months back call me today saying he just got two BSODs when playing videos. My First though is graphics card...turns out i was right. the first thing i told him to do was try older drivers as he was on the newest ones. However that didn't seem to work. I had him pull the card out so now he is on the integrated gpu (Intel HD 4000). I don't want to call bad hardware yet but Im kinda stumped on this one any help would be appreciated. These are the specs EVGA GeForce GTX 680 i7 3770k Gigibyte GA-Z77-D3H 8gb ram Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1112755-graphics-card-troubles/ Share on other sites
Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted October 17, 2012 Global Moderator Share Posted October 17, 2012 I think it is overheating. Did you dust out the case? Is the GFX fan working? Jason S. Global Moderator Posted October 17, 2012 Global Moderator Share Posted October 17, 2012 overheating while playing videos? not likely. not even sure if the GPU is being used to play the videos... why is it your first thought that it's the graphics card? i'd tell the person to completely uninstall all graphics drivers. use a driver cleaner. remove the card, reseat it, and try the driver install again. f0rk_b0mb
When my computer was giving me BSODS and studdering after a few hours of heavy use, I installed 2 140mm fans in my case. No problems since. The fact he was watching movies at that time is probably just coincidence. How many do you have? If you just have 2 fans (one in the back, one in the front) you need to get more. A system like that is just naturally going to be hot. Make sure the ones you currently have in the case are installed correctly. There are usually arrows on the fan. The one in the front is supposed to suck air in, and the one in the back is supposed to blow air out. The one on the side is also to suck air out. In my case I have 2 140's on the top also sucking out, and a 120 behind the processor sucking. lol. sucking and blowing. :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1112755-graphics-card-troubles/#findComment-595253345 Share on other sites

Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted October 17, 2012 Global Moderator Share Posted October 17, 2012 jdawg, heating can still be a problem whether or not you are using the GFX card or any hardware heavily. mduren2445
although you are probably right about it , what error code and error was it giving during the bsod's? that info will give a more precise clue what the problem was Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1112755-graphics-card-troubles/#findComment-595253475 Share on other sites
OH2D
He has used a driver cleaner that evga recommend and has taken the card out uninstalled the drivers and put the card back in and reinstalled the driver and is still having problems. I asked him if he had been seeing any artifacts recently and he said yes so I'm thinking bad hardware even more. As for what codes for the bsod I'm not to sure what he was getting I will have to ask him later today.
