Anyone got your Surface yet?

Recommended Posts

I will give you guys a piece of advice, since I found this out and it helped me a lot.

Apparently the surface will get to you before the money is taken out (happened to me and others all over the net).

You might get charged, refunded then double charged. One is a pre authorization because of the previous mentioned mistake and one is the actual withdrawal. (happened to me and others all over the net).

It will ship and arrive before the website or the people on the phone can even tell you, the system is slow or microsoft doesnt want to depend on the courier too much so they just let it get delivered versus getting your hopes up.

But... One way to be sneaky and figure out if your order has shipped or being shipped is to take your order number, take out the MS from it, and go to UPS and Fedex, search by reference number, and paste it in their.

I found this tip on the 23 and when I went to both UPS and Fedex, it didnt show it as shipped or in their system. BUT, what I didnt realize is, fedex wants the reference # + where its going.

Once I put my reference plus my zip code, instantly it pop'd up and it was picked up in china. Now you have to understand they are a day ahead of us, BUT it worked and mine was on time. I called all the way up to the 25th and all the reps could tell me is 'itll be their when your receipt says, that is the pre order gurrantee".

Which yes, I believe microsoft planned to have them on time, but I think the couriers derped and thats why they are late.

That is why apple ships as soon as they can and have the courier hold it and if it gets delivered earlier thats better then being there late or etc.

****ing off customers is worse then breaking the "do not deliver early rule"

I received an email from MS UK early this morning with a tracking number and confirmation that my Surface has shipped. It's a shame they seem so inconsistent in the UK (some people receive tracking numbers, some don't, etc.) but hopefully it should arrive today. I hope it does because my partner is unlikely to spend another day waiting for a delivery.

I just called Microsoft about my order and tracking. Their response.

"Your order says still in process. No tracking yet.

A customer said they received their order without the tracking email being sent first.

So it may turn up without notification

Anything else I can help you with?"

I was thinking that is it ?

Nothing much scripted customer service can do, they are probably seeing the same page I see on my order page.

Still, very poor from Microsoft. Not like I ordered a unit that had a waiting time. Basically I should just expect it whenever MS feels like shipping it.

I'm still "in process" too. Yeah.

I have a feeling that MS underestimated the amount of interest in Surface.

It's also the first major hardware release that they are selling directly. It's going to take a while to stream line the process.

This - especially in the UK where the Microsoft store is realistically a much smaller operation than in the US. They've never had a big product launch before, or I'd wager ever even had to deal with any orders of significant volume. A mess up just waiting to happen frankly.

Managed to get a Live chat going on the Microsoft Store page.

They didn't have much to say either. Basically, told me to call the number which I had already done. He went on to say they are doing their best getting orders shipped from the warehouse which I should of asked where, could be China or in the UK. Didn't have anything else to say apart from saying sorry. I honestly think there is about five departments working on this but they don't communicate whatsoever so nobody has an answer.

Oh well, the wait continiues.

Well I went to the MS store here in Seattle just to look and walked out with a Surface w/touch cover. So far its nice, I expect more apps and soon.

Well, my case went from strange to weird to crazy. I ordered on 26th and on 28th my order disappeared from the site. After a lengthy call with the custormer support, I came to know that my order is confirmed but shipment would happen only within 2-3 weeks. I was very unhappy but as I read that a number of people have been receiving without any mails, I let the order stay on for a while. My order started appearing back on the store website on 30th.

But suddenly my surface was delivered yesterday (1st Nov) morning without any notice(through UPS). Crazy thing is Microsoft store website still lists my order as in process and Money hasn't been deducted from my bank account.

The idea of putting your order no. as tracking details on Fedex/UPS didn't work for me and the customer support seem to have no information apart from what we can see on the site.

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers

I got mine yesterday. Damn UPS though. They left it crammed in my mailbox (box was sticking out about a foot). Luckily, I had just refreshed the tracking site so rushed home to get it.

UPS SUCKS!!

I assume this means there are no customs fee to pay

One thing I have noticed, that's quite nice for Zune users, is that all the media that was already downloaded via Zune is available to download again via Xbox Music and Video.

I have been using my 64gb surface for two weeks now. Took it to the lions den(where MacBook air/pro) on the day after I bought it, and actually was not afraid. Some of them came over and ask me to show them the features. Some told me that they will be getting them for Xmas. Today I came back to the den, and saw 3 other Surface users are there proudly using their new toy.

    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
    • The biggest issue in this version of Win 11 context menu, from usability standpoint, is the movable row with basic commands. Think of a car analogy...if You turn the week left the infotainment screen will move right and vice versa. With how it works now Microsoft made something forbidden in designing in any UI, software or hardware. I can't grasp who were the morons within Microsoft suggesting it was a good idea and gave it a green light.
