Anyone got your Surface yet?

Recommended Posts

I have been using my 64gb surface for two weeks now. Took it to the lions den(where MacBook air/pro) on the day after I bought it, and actually was not afraid. Some of them came over and ask me to show them the features. Some told me that they will be getting them for Xmas. Today I came back to the den, and saw 3 other Surface users are there proudly using their new toy.

FYI. You CAN lock the rotation screen to either landscape or portrait. Once you decided to go landscape or portrait, activate the charms. Click settings, then click on screen and activate the lock screen icon. This will stop the screen rotation to your desire(portrait or landscape).

The wait for me is over mine tuned up an our ago, 7 days from ordering date, better than the estimated 3 weeks!

What do you think of it?

1st impressions are good, certainly going to give my iPad a run for its money! A few little things I'm going to miss but nothing that is going to spoil the experience.

Same here, although it's the first tablet I've owned and I'm really impressed. If you have an Xbox then the Smartglass app is a great addition.

One thing I have noticed, that's quite nice for Zune users, is that all the media that was already downloaded via Zune is available to download again via Xbox Music and Video.

As an aside. those apps still calls themselves "Zune Music" and "Zune Video" internally :p

I've had multiple people come up to me while using my surface and ask so many questions about it, and most of them mentioned they saw the 'surface movement' commercial and got curious.

I think I'm the only one in Muskoka (Ontario, Canada) that has one. all the workers at The Source (Canadian radio shack) in my town are all jealous and always want to play with it.

I had one guy at work see me walking around with it and yelled from across the room "is that the new tablet!?" and ran towards me. it's definitely getting attention

Holy crap I still have not received my pre order yet, what is going on Microsoft. 4 phone calls and no one knows and are passing the buck on everyone else in the department, well a week from now I might be talking to bill and ask him what's going on with it. The last phone call was yesterday morning, and went like this, yes you have ordered one, Ohh wait it looks like we shipped the ups label out but no surface has arrived to ups, but Microsoft took my money for it now on the 27. So they tell me this has to go to a manager somewhere, it will take 24 - 48 for this person to get back to me.

My question is: are there people in Canada still waiting for their preorder or is just me left in Canada without one?

You made the biggest mistake you could have by agreeing to wait for a callback. Be nice, but be insistent that you get the issue resolved while you are on the phone. Insist that you speak to a manager, and that you will wait on the phone until you are speaking with one.

I just went through a hassle with my Surface order, but I did get it resolved.

Well I spent pretty much of the day on the phone with Microsoft Canada, about this Microsoft surface that was pre ordered by me. If you have been reading about my troubles. 9am yesterday, called again, because the manager from the night before couldn't be bothered to phone back, so as it goes again this morning all they can say is they do not know what's going on, they don't even know if they even shipped it, because there was a ups label made for it, but it seems to me that know one shipped it from Microsoft at all to the ups store for shipping. This label was created 2 1/2 weeks ago, and that's all ups has to say on this matter. Microsoft said that they would have to look into compensating me again for complete mess up whenever things get figured out. So again it looks like I'm all over the phone again today. Maby I will get my pre order by Christmas. One dissatisfied costumer.

Is there anything else I should be doing to get this thing here. What should I ask for ( compensation )?

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
    • Yeah, all web browsers seem to have some junk in them these days. The regular Brave browser has a lot of unnecessary stuff in it, similar to Microsoft Edge, so I don't see any benefits of using Brave over Microsoft Edge if you already have Microsoft Edge fully set up with ad blockers and that. The cleanest or best free browser outside of 'Microsoft Edge' I’ve tried so far is 'Samsung Browser'. It has very little bloat and is a nice-looking web browser with an inbuilt 'Ad blocker'. I also really like the web browser called 'Floorp' that is based on Firefox. This browser can also install Chrome extensions. I have a system wide Ad blocking program for Windows 11 that doesn't just blocks ads in the web browser, but over the whole system. I don't really need a web browser with an inbuilt ad blocker because of that.
