ConAmor
Hi, I have installed Windows XP Pro OEM then upgraded to Windows 8 Pro. For whatever reason it created a partion of 100MB on each of the drives I have and my main drive letter is F: instead of C:... I would like to reinstall Windows 8 but I do not have the DVD since it simply upgraded from the internet... Is there a way to get it and can I simply reinstall over my Windows 8? ConAmor
I can't even redownload it... By running the assistant it wants me to pay again! haha At least with the DVD I'd try to install in from a clean hard drive with the key they provided me and see if they accept that I install it without installing XP first.. skilithead
Windows 8 creates the 100 MB partitions on each drive as part of the new EFI/GPT partitioning scheme . By chance did you save the key for your windows 8 install ? ConAmor
Great! Thanks GreyWolf, after it finishes the download. I will try to simply boot from the DVD and install it and see if it request me to install Windows XP Pro OEM first... I hope not, it would like more than an hour to get Windows 8 installed. Yes, the key is in a email Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1115443-partitionning-and-windows-8-problems/#findComment-595278777 Share on other sites

ConAmor
The big problem is that my C: drive contains only the system files which are hidden, all the other files including users Windows program, etc are in the F:... Is there any way to fix that without reinstalling? I was trying to install my NOD32 AV and it said that the C drive was wrong... since the files are located on the F: Wow, I realized something... My Windows 8 is installed in 32bits... Probably because my Windows XP was 32... is there a way to reinstall in 64 or I "bought" the 32bit version? skilithead
From my understanding the upgrade version is just that ,an upgrade to a qualifying install of windows . I've been seeing a lot of failures at installation with folks trying to install without an OS already on the drive . Eric Veteran Posted October 28, 2012 Veteran Share Posted October 28, 2012 If you run the upgrade assistant from an x64 machine and enter your key you got from the initial upgrade it should download the x64 version and let you make an install disc from it. pack34
Anyone know if there is a config file in the win8 DVD so I can create an unattended file that force 64 bit? How much RAM do you have in your machine? If you were previously running XP then I'm guessing that you don't have more than 4GB installed. If you don't ten there really isn't a point in trying to hack your way into the 64 bit version. ConAmor
8GB, yes I was able to custom install and delete the 2 partitions... Ok if I understand, I should install a 64bit OS, I don't have to activate it and after run the upgrade assistant. I'm pretty sure it will ask me to buy it again? jbfoster
ConAmor, I downloaded the 64 bit version of Windows 8 Pro ISO. It's 2.69GB. I can try to upload it somewhere so you can download it and give it a try or you can try the download link from my email. Do you have the 32 bit ISO? if so how big is it?
