Partitionning and Windows 8 problems

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have installed Windows XP Pro OEM then upgraded to Windows 8 Pro.

For whatever reason it created a partion of 100MB on each of the drives I have and my main drive letter is F: instead of C:...

I would like to reinstall Windows 8 but I do not have the DVD since it simply upgraded from the internet... Is there a way to get it and can I simply reinstall over my Windows 8?

Great! Thanks GreyWolf, after it finishes the download. I will try to simply boot from the DVD and install it and see if it request me to install Windows XP Pro OEM first... I hope not, it would like more than an hour to get Windows 8 installed.

Yes, the key is in a email

The big problem is that my C: drive contains only the system files which are hidden, all the other files including users Windows program, etc are in the F:... Is there any way to fix that without reinstalling? I was trying to install my NOD32 AV and it said that the C drive was wrong... since the files are located on the F:

Wow, I realized something... My Windows 8 is installed in 32bits... Probably because my Windows XP was 32... is there a way to reinstall in 64 or I "bought" the 32bit version?

Anyone know if there is a config file in the win8 DVD so I can create an unattended file that force 64 bit?

How much RAM do you have in your machine? If you were previously running XP then I'm guessing that you don't have more than 4GB installed. If you don't ten there really isn't a point in trying to hack your way into the 64 bit version.

Hi thanks for all the help. On my Windows 8 32bit pc, I installed a virtual machine containing 7 64bit... ran the upgrade assistance... got the iso, shared it to my PC, dropped it on a usb... finally have windows 8 64bit activated!

(Y) Glad you got it sorted out! :)

A major compiler is used for both x86/x64 and WoA64 architectures. This also means that all core libraries are re-compiled accordingly which required some changes in the build scripts. One of the core libraries (cURL) has been updated to address vulnerabilities and a nasty linker error that was causing the need for a dedicated patch which could now be eliminated.
