Windows 8 random black screens after Startup/Restart

Recommended Posts

Hello

I'm experiencing random black screens after Startup or restarting my machine, which is running Windows 8 Pro x64

My laptop has a Intel Core i3 350M and Intel HD Graphics. As you can see from Intel Download Center, this hardware is not and won't be supported by Intel website, however, Intel HD Graphics can be updated through Windows Update. This is not the actual situation and everyone who has this specs already should know that. There are no drivers on Windows Update available now and the only driver you can use officialy is the WDDM which comes preinstalled on Windows 8.

This driver is not a big deal, it can't run OpenGL applications and won't support daily applications very well.

Searching the web, i found this link https://www.neowin.net/news/how-to-install-legacy-intel-hd-graphics-drivers-on-windows-8

I did everything as explained, however, since i installed this driver i'm getting these black screens.

I would like to know if there's anything i can do about this, so i can recover the realibility on my computer, because, at this moment, i don't know when it will load windows properly or not

So you're wanting to return to the original driver?

To do that open the Device Manager (accessible by right-clicking the Start Screen hot corner at the bottom left of the screen), find your video card and open its properties. On the Driver tab, choose Roll Back Driver and choose Yes when prompted. This will restore the default driver included with Windows 8.

As for a long-term solution, you might be able to install the Windows 7 driver using Have Disk (starting with the driver package in its original form--not with the modifications given in the Neowin tutorial). I haven't tested this with Intel graphics but it worked for my AMD card which refused to install the driver in any other way. This makes Windows see the Windows 7 driver as a compatible driver, rather than tricking it into thinking it is a true Windows 8 driver, so this might avoid the black screen issue you had with the other method.

Thanks by the help.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. I tried with both drivers, the original one - without the autorun.inf modded and the modified driver version.

None worked.

The windows gives a error message saying that the driver is not designed for this system (Windows 8) or it's not made for x64 architecture.

If you have any more ideas, please let me know

Thanks in advance

    • Stop asking people that. It's a "No True Scotsman" argument in that you are attempting to discredit the opinions of a person by Attacking the Messenger. The reason that these are logical fallacies is the TRUTH is based on facts as supported by evidence. Nothing else. So, always debate the facts with evidence to reach the truth. Once you learn to do this, you'll be able to recognize when people are fearmongering and lying to you for their own selfish ends.
    • It doesn't matter if you didn't directly hear it from person X or Y. Every one of your statements comes straight from the racist, skinhead, anti-immigrant, be afraid of everything, "they are all taking our jobs", etc. etc. mouthpieces. That's where Farag and Putin heard it from too...and used it against the UK. So, while you keep disavowing the people who publicly peddled that position, you keep proving over and over again that those lies influenced you into being tricked when the Brexit vote came around too. In fact, your final sentence makes it crystal clear that it was the racist/anti-immigrant lies you fell and voted for, since you stated that you didn't have an issue with the economic trade issues with the EU. Ahem. To be clear, all of these LIES are EONS old, mate. They are the same fearmongering lies peddled to the same ignorant, gullible cowards by the same charlatans, snake-oil salesmen, and would be demagogues who've been doing this since caveman Ugh lied about his slightly different neighbor in order to steal his land. And, finally, you answered your own previous question. The reason that the EU isn't clamoring to bring the UK back is that they have had enough of people who would rather shoot themselves in the foot than get over their "insecurity issues". It's the same reason the entire world is moving away from the USA as fast as it can...
