Neowin's 'Club Orange' - a dying breed?

Bit hypocritical isn't?

No. I'd prefer you not to label me a hypocrite without knowing the back story, which you never will.

Considered it, but aside from removal of ads, which don't bother me, as 99% of sites have ads.. I see no point. They get money via ads, granted it's not a tonne.. but it's some.. I don't gain anything, I am just out of pocket the price of the sub.

I am a very selfish person, I do things if they will benefit me in a large way, subbing is not one of those things.

why cant you with paypal

paypal is the option it gives me

Because I don't have a paypal account, I only have axx to the visa of a friend and he doesn't want to use his paypal for this -.-

I think he was referring to the fact that you've not renewed your sub, but you're still using the badge.

Hm? I had long regen-ed the Neowin badge. Fixed by uploading the image to imgur.

I've given up on Neowin recently, got a bit out of hand in the fact that your no longer allowed ot state your opinion anymore without getting a warning it seems.

I've been a subscriber for a few years but I don't get anything back for me helping, there isn't really much they can give me either. "so for that reason I'm out"

You're allowed to state your opinion as long as it's within the rules. And the benefits of subscribing are the perks and supporting the site. Anyway, feel free to PM me if you want to get anything off your chest regarding Neowin.

As a Linux user, I often feel like kind of an outcast. It's not the fault of anybody running the site, the fact is that this is a site that is focused largely around Microsoft and its products, and I'm not one of those guys who thinks Bill Gates is the anti-christ and that Microsoft is destroying the world, but I tend to swing by here once and a while to post about a gun of mine or to see if DocM has posted anything about his guns, and then I move on to other forums with information that is more relevant to my OS of choice.

I can relate to that a lot.

I'm really not sure whether I'll resubscribe to Neowin again next time around.

It's some issues I have with how some of my concerned are viewed from staff side.

It's mostly the difference in moderation forums vs. FPN and foremost the front page articles that get degraded in quality a lot over time.

It's also annoying the hell out of me what some members on here are like personality-wise.

That's something that Neowin itself cannot fix, of course, but surely it makes this site less and less attractive.

I've found many cool people on here, for example remixedcat and a LOT of others, but I don't want to do too much namedropping, because the more names I mention, the easier I step on someone's shoes for leaving them out of a list that could go on and on and on and... you get the point. :)

It's just that many on here seem to have absolutely lost all their manners and respect for others, their choices and/or way of thinking about things.

Now, you see I'm not the biggest Windows 8 fan *cough* not at all *cough*, but I won't go around and tell people to fit their way of thinking around something they don't like.

I just see so much hate going on here... This happened in a very short time, like 1.5-2 years ago we were all mostly rather calm around here, at least on the technology topics etc...

Now, even the front page articles are flamebait par excellence.

I just don't get it, well... I do, and I don't like the reasons and the statements I hear why those articles are "right".

I don't like the atmosphere on here as of late.

Basically I still come here for some members, some help (bidirectional) and some topics that mostly seem "safe".

More often than earlier I see myself unsubscribing from threads, because I know that what's going to be posted will just drive me nuts, so I don't bother with some threads that are actually about interesting topics.

*sigh*

Sorry for the mega rant, at least that's the topic of this thread so I guess I'm excused. :p

Reported for a bad attitude! :)

2 reasons:

Completely biased moderation in threads

Ridiculous garbage articles on the front page (usually written by one person in particular)

Damn skippy!

I still love you!

I don't see a lack of Subs?

I guess the feeling comes from many subscribers unsubscribing who posted very frequently and / or still do.

Example: I probably noticed Phouchg's loss of subscriber status on day one.

Now, witness this kind of thing a couple of times within a short timespan and you're starting to wonder.

Maybe it's not so much about how many, but WHO is unsubscribing.

Not saying anyone's "worth more", but I definitely think that when a very very active and enthusiastic member decides to "drop support" it much more "worrying" or "interesting" than an average member who just found out that the use he or she gets out of a subscription doesn't cut it.

Usually, dedicated members, I would believe at least, will unsubscribe over disagreement rather than lack of will to support, something that's often their incentive to subscribe in the first place.

All this combined with the (maybe acted?) lack of concern over some things that go wrong around here by some staff people actually boosts my impression this site is not heading where I think it should, hence I'm pondering whether to renew my subscription or not.

suppose your right, I do notice some names who aren't subs anymore but I just assumed they can't afford it or moved on to another site

*shrugs*

I won my orange badge through a competition run on the site :). I don't know if I'd renew it because I don't see any advantages other than the orange badge! Perhaps if our feedback was actively encouraged and used to influence future news articles and site direction it would be more worthwhile.

We would actually really appreciate your feedback, sub or not! Obviously the writers (and Neobond!) all have to determine the direction of our news for ourselves, but you'd be surprised about how much we take it into account.

I won mine last year in a competition and renewed it this year by paying for it.

I don't really use any of the features but i feel i suck up a lot of bandwidth on this site over the years, so the least i can do is pay a little bit per year as repayment

I don't really see a reason while i'll unsubscribe. I'm not bothered about the politics on this site like some people. I come here to have discussions that relate to my interests.

I've been here for a number of years now and i don't think i've ever had a warning or even had a disagreement with any member.

For other people unscubscribing. I'd think it is either lack of spare money to pay for a subscription or the lack of incentive to subscribe. Removing ads to some people is a big thing but personally so long as the ads aren't intrusive, i don't mind them. Neowins thankfully not intrusive.

I did get banned once when i reported a spammer. The mod accidently banned my account instead

I generally like this forum but I personally am not going to subscribe until something is done by the staff to actively put a stop to the constant trolling that goes on in threads about Google products. This is a pretty hostile forum to people that use Google products.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • The only reason I want to know where you from is because if you are not from the U.K, then why should you care what we in the U.K do or don't do? Racist I am not, I am fed up with the amount coming over here and feel they can come over here and think we need to support them. Do you know how much it costs this country to support these people coming over here? Even when we give them a place to live it is not good enough. We had a barge that was being used to house immigrants, oh but that was not good enough. A mate said to me at the time, when he was homeless, he would have been happy to live on the barge, instead of ending up sleeping on a bench on the beach. I am not scared to say what my family heritage is, unlike you who is scared to say where they are from or where they live. Father side U.S, mother side Wales, still have family living in the U.S. A mate who sadly died a few years ago, had a load of people from different races recording in his studio, I got on with all of them. Skin colour don't bother me, where they are from don't bother me. Religion don't bother me as long as they don't push it onto me and it is not crazy stuff. I am not religious. But if you are not living in the U.K, then why should you care if we are in the E.U or not? This the problem, too many people poking their noses into where it don't belong. But you believe what you believe, if you think I am racist, then be it, I really do not care. Just grow a pair
    • If he hasn't been able to figure that out, then why is he obsessed with tariffs? Because that's one of the most prominent tools to level the playing field when you have high cost of labor.
    • Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5102558, KB5095615 Setup and Recovery updates by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft released the newest preview update (C-release) under KB5095093. Alongside those, Microsoft also released new dynamic updates. For those who may not know, dynamic updates bring improvements to the Windows Recovery process in the form of Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates, which are also called Safe OS updates. The dynamic updates also affect the Setup file binaries in the form of Setup updates. These Dynamic Update packages are meant to be applied to existing Windows images prior to their deployment. Dynamic Updates also help preserve Language Pack (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content during the upgrade process. VBScript, for example, is currently an FOD on Windows 11 24H2. This time both recovery and setup updates were released for Windows 11. The company writes: "KB5095186: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 26H1: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.28000.2335. KB5102558: Setup Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to Windows setup binaries or any files that setup uses for feature updates in Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows 11, version 25H2. KB5095615: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.26100.8737." Microsoft notes that both the Recovery and Setup updates will be downloaded and installed automatically via the Windows Update channel.
