Windows XP COMPUTER that doesn't show Display

I'm trying to work with a Windows XP system that has a VGA and a DVI port both how Windows show the splash screen and then have the display turn black. I've went into BIOS and checked some of the settings but couldn't see anything that would show up as changing it so it would work...although I did try loading defaults...which didn't work. it has atleast 1 GB of RAM. Also, it starts in Safe Mode and in safe mode shows all the drivers loaded...how can this be fixed?

Try booting in VGA mode or safemode and drop the resolution down low

Is this a desktop case or a laptop ?

On a desktop, I would reseat the RAM and the video card, first.
