920 is an amazing phone!

O_O 52 hours of music playback? 320 hours standby?

Yeah, there is definitely something wrong then. I barely use my phone and it barely makes it a days without touching. I am wondering if they overestimated their stats, or if my phone really is that bad...

I guess it also depends on what things you have running on it continously. WiFi, bluetooth, brightness of screen etc...look through the settings.

The brightness is on the default that it came with. Bluetooth is never on. WiFi is constantly on. Same settings as my Galaxy S, really. It even seems this phone doesn't stay connected to WiFi when on standby (which is aggravating as it doesn't update my email until I check it, because I keep data network turned off.)

If I am not mistaken, WP switches off WIFI when the phone goes to sleep. It was like this for 7.5 and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it is the same for 8. Your device is acting up really "funny".

Wonder if there is a way to make it not do that. I don't know when I have a new email, unless I have my Galaxy on me as well. (Or I manually check it.)

I love the phone, but all these problems are really taking away from it. Not trying to scare anyone away from it, as these seem to be isolated problems specific to my phone. When the cyan 920 comes in I'll call AT&T and inform them of my issues, and see if I can just swap out the black matte one for the cyan one without any issues on returning this one instead.

I checked where I've read that about WP8, it was on a review article on ArsTechnica. They also mentioned that MS was working on an update to change that behaviour, but until then there is no way to change that. It never really bothered me because I had data always on (this was back when I had a Dell Venue Pro with its sucky battery). It's really weird considering your's is a new device. I'd suggest restore to factory settings maybe it has some buggy software installed or return it.

I have the 200MB data plan (grandfathered in). So I like to keep it off unless I go out of town, as I am 90% of the time around WiFi otherwise.

I hadn't thought about a factory reset. I'll try that first and see what that does. Thanks!

The WiFi switching off is an annoying "feature" and they are working on patching it up for WP8. If your phone is charging however, the WiFi will stay connected. No news about a patch coming to WP7 though.

My yellow Lumia 920 just came in earlier today! And the wireless charging pad with it woo hoo

Ordered mine on 11/15 and its still stating its in "Processing". I reached out to customer service and they stated they had received 720 units of the yellow. Expected the device to ship out 11/20, I don't think its going to make it before my business trip on the 26th. I tried to cancel the order and have them ship a black unit, but they wouldn't do it. I wish they would have at least let me know when I placed my order that there were limited quantities of the yellow in stock at AT&T.

If you still want to cancel it, call back and refuse to speak with anyone until they get you to "customer relations", and explain your business trip situation. That is what I did, and they cancelled it and gave me $100 off my next bill for the trouble.

Is it amazing enough to convert an iPhone 5 user like me who has a lot invested in apps? I like everything Windows 8 and the 920 does look super sweet. iOS just seems to be getting stale despite the amount of apps I've bought.

i dont know how its for you but i had an iphone once with lots of apps. i then switched to android cause i felt bored of iOs. of course i had to do without with some of the iOS apps and after a little while, i didnt even miss them.

then i had a windows phone and i noticed that how little apps i really need. most are just toys without any real significance.

maybe u experience the same. how many iOS apps are really (and i mean really!) necessary?

can you do me a big favour? id like to know this:

do you need to put it on the wireless charging pad front upwards? if yes, does any (any i mean any) light blink or constantly lighten?

or can you also put the phone front down on the charging pad and it still charges?

thing is, i have it next to my bed and any light would disturb me.

thanks a ton :-)

Got my yellow one on Saturday, and I have been loving it. So much more snappy than the 900. Love the smaller tile size. Love the kids corner. Still waiting for my TMZ, Papa Johns, and FIOS apps. Come on WP8!

There's no light on the phone that lights up while charging but there is a small led on the front side of the charger (the opposite end to where the power cord meets the charging pad) that you could cover up if it's too annoying.

I too am in a similar situation as you. Good to see 920 getting some love and I don't know I should get an android or a wp8 phone. Decisions decisions.

For the charging pad, a blinking light means that the charger and the phone isn't properly connected. It needs to be a nonblinking steady light to be charging. When it's done charging, it would just slowly blink occasionally. And yeah, the phone screen does need to be facing upwards.

=)

best answer to be given it go to a store and test it out yourself :)

me. I'm gonna be getting the AT&T model pretty soon and stick a StraightTalk sim in it

Reviews have mentioned that it feels heavy as lead. Do feel that while using it in day to day life?

It is actually somewhat heavy, for being a phone. I've had it slide off of various furniture when I've set it down a couple times now.

But it is nothing like lead, as they say. A bit heavier than most phones but nothing worth complaining over.

and same here in the UK. I'm not dropping my deal i have with my current provider (3) just to get a 920.

Is a shame but it's just not happening.

Yep.

I have a great deal with O2 (which is about to get even even better now my contact is up for renewal!).

Would be looking to get this but some of the apps I use aren't available which will put me off big time. But when the exclusivity deal is over I might get one. For now though I am happy with my Galaxy Nexus.

Until it comes to Amazon, I am put off buying it else where as I don't want an imported one thanks.

My iPhone 4 recently died and my phone insurance sent me a temp phone while it's being fixed (turned out to be a Nokia Lumia 800 because that's the only phone they had that takes a micro sim), since using it and WP 7.5 I've been impressed enough to order a 920. Can't wait.

    • Payday TWO!! Is 13 years old man I feel old - I remember trying it out and if I did not know I would say 5-6 years ago or something
    • Payday 2 engine upgrade adds 64-bit and DX11 support, drastically shrinks install size by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Payday 2, the most popular entry in the heisting game franchise, is getting a surprising update after all these years. This is slated to be a complete engine upgrade that will enhance almost every aspect of the 13-year-old title, targeting performance, loading times, file size, rendering backend, and more. Developer Sidetrack Games is planning a beta to test out the new version ahead of the full public launch. The development team today revealed that the long-awaited upgrade to the 64-bit architecture is happening with this Diesel 3.0 engine update. By letting the game use more ram than 4GB, it is said to improve stability and compatibility on most hardware. It should also help modders in the long term with implementing larger changes too. "While many of the changes are made on the backend and not everything will be visible to you guys because it is a massive rewrite of the entire codebase, there will be a lot of things that you can look forward to," Sidetrack explained. Payday 2 will also hop over from DirectX 9 to 11. Instead of visual improvements, this is slated to reduce the amount of VRAM used by the title, letting more lower-end hardware access the title and run it better. Since these changes would require a complete redownload of the game anyway, Sidetrack says it has revamped "the game's packaging and bundling system." This should reduce the installation size from 86GB to 32GB. "So, now it's time to finally move the game to your SSDs," added the studio. The Payday 2 Diesel Engine 3.0 update is entering open beta on June 30 for Steam users. No console release plans were announced today. Sidetrack Games says it has been working on this complete rewrite of the codebase for the last nine months. While these changes should break most mods, the studio encouraged modders to use the beta period to repair their creations with support from the development team.
