920 is an amazing phone!

Anyone buy the 920 in the US? If so, did you buy it unlocked? I'm going to visit the US in a week and I figure I'll just buy a 920 from there and bring it back but if you buy it flat out from AT&T is it in fact unlocked or no?

For anyone who has the 920 what warranty did you go with? I'm coming from Apple land and know the ease of getting AppleCare / walking into the Apple store for help. I am thinking of purchasing the 920 and if I am going to spend the money for an unlocked version and hoping I'll get decent support if I need it

Im trying the figure this out as well because I want to buy the 920 for Tmobile US as well. I read something that in the US the 920 will not work on Tmobiles 3g frequency. Not sure if that is correct though.

I think it will but the only thing that won't work is the LTE probably. Load up the 920s specs sheet and look at the bands it supports. The AT&T one probably just supports their own LTE band but the 2g/3g etc should just work between everyone.

You can head over to gsmnation.com find the 920 and they should have a section that lets you check on which networks it will work on by country.

A co-worker of mine dumped his iPhone for this Lumia 920 phone and he says he loves it. I on the other hand, got a Galaxy Note 2 instead but I did looked at the Lumia 920 but decided against it because:

1. Battery life sucks on it.

2. The battery cannot be removed or replaced by the user.

3. The Windows apps store has a loooooooong way to go.

4. No MicroSD card for expansion.

Hardware wise, the Nokia is an excellent phone, but is is a shame that is doesn't have a MicroSD card or removable battery.

The battery usage you're referring to isn't a universal problem though. While there are reports of poor battery life there are just as many reports of outstanding battery life. I expect that the culprit will be identified soon enough and a patch released.

As for the camera, it seems that the Lumia 920 takes slightly soft daylight photos but there's no denying that it's in a league of it's own when taking indoor or night time photos. Similarly, the smoothness of the video it takes is unmatched. I'm sure Nokia will improve the quality of daylight pics sooner rather than later but it's clear that the L920 is at least a generation ahead of all other phones in terms of camera tech.

I have the nokia 920 for about 3 weeks now:

1. Some apps do drain the battery (e.g. Nokia Drive Beta). however, after disabling them from running in the background, the battery issue just disappeared. Hopefully, they will have a more permanent fix soon. It is not a hardware issue. True, the battery might less than other phones but it could last me a day easily with 40% left so i am happy. I can sacrifice a little bit for the great screen contrast.

2. As long as the battery is good, i don't think you should worry about battery replacement. As I see it, the lifetime of the phone is around 2-3 years these days. The battery should last you that much.

3. Yes, you won't have all the apps you have in the iphone. But seriously, you have all what you will need. Those specialty apps are not here yet (e.g. Safeway app...) but the core experience is there and it is great. I can find apps for everything I need (photo editing, travel arrangements, budgeting,...) Of course, that in addition to the Windows phone experience which has great integration. Most of the time, i use my phone for the using the phone, maps, msg... which is great in WP.

4. 32GB is more than enough for me at least + I have Skype integration which is great. Nokia music is great so I don't really have to put music. And Netflix and hulu are there too so no need for videos. Apps are small and they don't take much space. And you can take all the photos you want and you can have them uploaded to Skype automatically too.

I just got my free wireless charger. It seems to be working. I still have to test the time it takes to recharge it completely :)

You realize you just compared a phone with a 3100mAh battery with one that has a 2000mAh battery and stated that the phone with the 38% larger battery beat out the one with a smaller battery by around 40%? Uh..?

Also, just because some people are having issues with battery life doesn't mean everyone is. My brother didn't, but his wife did. Once she uninstalled Battery Level, her battery issues disappeared. But, every phone has issues. Do a search for Galaxy Note 2 issues and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah, the only difference the AT&T version has is that it specifically supports it's own LTE band. The 920 you linked for example will work on all 3 of the carriers in my country which use the same GSM network etc. Looking at it it's a quad-band GSM device + LTE.

You are right but even though my Note 2 battery is larger, you have to remember my phone is larger as well, therefore the unit will drain just as much power as any other. Putting a 2100 battery on a Note 2 would be suicide. The screen and CPU is simply too much for a battery that size.

Maybe because it has 4 cores instead of 2 it saves more power because there isn't much stress and therefore it requires less to do its thing? I don't know.

AT&T has it's exclusive 920 deal going for, probably, 6 months max. I expect other carriers will get it, or a updated version like a 922 but I dunno when. If the bands it already supports is what your carrier uses though, as long as it's unlocked it should just work once you put your sim card in it. The same should be the case for LTE.

The AT&T one will work on the 1700 network so long as they are allowing it to be unlocked for your SIM.

There are two versions of the phone. RM-820 have LTE bands: 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600.

RM-821 have LTE bands: 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 210 which is the AT&T version.
