920 is an amazing phone!

Anyone buy the 920 in the US? If so, did you buy it unlocked? I'm going to visit the US in a week and I figure I'll just buy a 920 from there and bring it back but if you buy it flat out from AT&T is it in fact unlocked or no?

For anyone who has the 920 what warranty did you go with? I'm coming from Apple land and know the ease of getting AppleCare / walking into the Apple store for help. I am thinking of purchasing the 920 and if I am going to spend the money for an unlocked version and hoping I'll get decent support if I need it

Does anyone know about anything regarding the Lumia 920 at&t unlocked version working on T-Mobile? Will the at&t unlocked version work worldwide? Can I just pop a sim into there?

I think it will but the only thing that won't work is the LTE probably. Load up the 920s specs sheet and look at the bands it supports. The AT&T one probably just supports their own LTE band but the 2g/3g etc should just work between everyone.

You can head over to gsmnation.com find the 920 and they should have a section that lets you check on which networks it will work on by country.

A co-worker of mine dumped his iPhone for this Lumia 920 phone and he says he loves it. I on the other hand, got a Galaxy Note 2 instead but I did looked at the Lumia 920 but decided against it because:

1. Battery life sucks on it.

2. The battery cannot be removed or replaced by the user.

3. The Windows apps store has a loooooooong way to go.

4. No MicroSD card for expansion.

Hardware wise, the Nokia is an excellent phone, but is is a shame that is doesn't have a MicroSD card or removable battery.

I was playing with a 920 at the MS store, and something that bothered me is that I could not take clear pictures. Whenever I would take a picture, the image would be razor sharp on the screen, but then it would blur slightly just as the image was captured. And the blur was still on the final pics. Is this normal? I was really looking forward to the quality on the camera, now I'm uneasy about it.

If you look at the reviews, they all say that the Lumia Camera is not exactly the best. The iPhone camera beats it and so does the camera on the galaxy S3 and Note 2.

The battery life on it sucks too.

My co-worker has the Lumia 920 and I have the Note 2. We decided to test the battery out on both. We both do the same job and use the phones for the same tasks. By the end of the day, from 8am to 5pm, I still had 60% battery left on my Note 2. He had 20% on his Lumia 920.

But our test doesn't mean anything really, just go to Google and search for: "Lumia 920 battery life" and you will see what I am referring to.

The battery usage you're referring to isn't a universal problem though. While there are reports of poor battery life there are just as many reports of outstanding battery life. I expect that the culprit will be identified soon enough and a patch released.

As for the camera, it seems that the Lumia 920 takes slightly soft daylight photos but there's no denying that it's in a league of it's own when taking indoor or night time photos. Similarly, the smoothness of the video it takes is unmatched. I'm sure Nokia will improve the quality of daylight pics sooner rather than later but it's clear that the L920 is at least a generation ahead of all other phones in terms of camera tech.

I have the nokia 920 for about 3 weeks now:

1. Some apps do drain the battery (e.g. Nokia Drive Beta). however, after disabling them from running in the background, the battery issue just disappeared. Hopefully, they will have a more permanent fix soon. It is not a hardware issue. True, the battery might less than other phones but it could last me a day easily with 40% left so i am happy. I can sacrifice a little bit for the great screen contrast.

2. As long as the battery is good, i don't think you should worry about battery replacement. As I see it, the lifetime of the phone is around 2-3 years these days. The battery should last you that much.

3. Yes, you won't have all the apps you have in the iphone. But seriously, you have all what you will need. Those specialty apps are not here yet (e.g. Safeway app...) but the core experience is there and it is great. I can find apps for everything I need (photo editing, travel arrangements, budgeting,...) Of course, that in addition to the Windows phone experience which has great integration. Most of the time, i use my phone for the using the phone, maps, msg... which is great in WP.

4. 32GB is more than enough for me at least + I have Skype integration which is great. Nokia music is great so I don't really have to put music. And Netflix and hulu are there too so no need for videos. Apps are small and they don't take much space. And you can take all the photos you want and you can have them uploaded to Skype automatically too.

I just got my free wireless charger. It seems to be working. I still have to test the time it takes to recharge it completely :)

Seems like the LTE doesn't work on any network and seems like only voice and edge will work on the Lumia 920. Is the at&t version GSM?

You realize you just compared a phone with a 3100mAh battery with one that has a 2000mAh battery and stated that the phone with the 38% larger battery beat out the one with a smaller battery by around 40%? Uh..?

Also, just because some people are having issues with battery life doesn't mean everyone is. My brother didn't, but his wife did. Once she uninstalled Battery Level, her battery issues disappeared. But, every phone has issues. Do a search for Galaxy Note 2 issues and you'll see what I mean.

Not trying to be an arse here. Just pointing out the obvious.

Yeah, the only difference the AT&T version has is that it specifically supports it's own LTE band. The 920 you linked for example will work on all 3 of the carriers in my country which use the same GSM network etc. Looking at it it's a quad-band GSM device + LTE.

I'm absolutely loving the camera on the 920, the detail this thing manages to pick up is amazing!

The LTE speeds are impressive too, I'm with Telstra and this thing is phenomenally quick.

So no indication of it coming to any other carriers in the USA? Hopefully T-Mobile.

Also over at http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia920/specifications/ - it lists the LTE band as 1700 which I believe is T-Mobile's. So what's the deal?

I've been having problems MMS'ing images taken with the phone. I need to crop them quite brutally before they'll send.

You are right but even though my Note 2 battery is larger, you have to remember my phone is larger as well, therefore the unit will drain just as much power as any other. Putting a 2100 battery on a Note 2 would be suicide. The screen and CPU is simply too much for a battery that size.

Maybe because it has 4 cores instead of 2 it saves more power because there isn't much stress and therefore it requires less to do its thing? I don't know.

AT&T has it's exclusive 920 deal going for, probably, 6 months max. I expect other carriers will get it, or a updated version like a 922 but I dunno when. If the bands it already supports is what your carrier uses though, as long as it's unlocked it should just work once you put your sim card in it. The same should be the case for LTE.

Ordered a red one yesterday. I'm moving over as an avid Android fan, and know I'm going to love it. The hardware makes learning and seeing how great the OS really is nice and easy. Hope I get it this week, at worst next week. Nokia is apparently not giving Telstra heaps of units to ship for some reason, but most don't have it available.

The AT&T one will work on the 1700 network so long as they are allowing it to be unlocked for your SIM.

There are two versions of the phone. RM-820 have LTE bands: 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600.

RM-821 have LTE bands: 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 210 which is the AT&T version.

I am sure that a company such a Seidio, Mophie or Mugen will come up with some kind of extended battery case for it.

The At&t version comes unlocked for $450 but is it unlocked just to use on At&t prepaid or unlocked for all?

no, that's still locked, that's just the price to buy it without a contract

    • Edifier S3000MKII hi-fi audiophile grade bookshelf speaker is at its lowest price now by Sayan Sen Yesterday we covered a bunch of Dolby Atmos soundbar deals with several ones from Sony, as well as from JBL, Samsung, Polk Audio, and more. You can check them out in this dedicated piece. Those are not audiophile category speakers though as they are built with home theater use in mind. If you are searching for the former then Edifier has its S3000MKII at its lowest price at the moment (purchase link under the specs table down below). This is a two-way bookshelf monitor speaker designed to produce accurate sound. While it may not produce the best high-fidelity audio possible out there, it should still be significantly better than what you will get on soundbars of this price range. As such it will do justice to high-res audio played back through it. The only thing that may feel lacking is sub-bass as Edifier claims the unit can go down to 38 Hz, which should be enough for studio monitor purposes, but not for deep room-shaking rumbling bass. Where this does excel though is in its treble reproduction. With its super-tweeter, it claims to go as high as 40 kHz in the frequency spectrum, which should offer a sense of "air"yness. This is an active speaker which means it packs its own amplfication. It has a top-notch Class D amp that may be able to rival many Class AB designs too in terms of sound reproduction quality. The technical specs of the Edifier S3000MKII are given in the table below: Specification Value RMS Output Power 256W RMS (Treble: 8W × 2, Mid-Low: 120W × 2) Tweeter Driver 107mm × 107mm Planar Magnetic Tweeter Mid-Low Driver 6.5-inch (179mm) Long-Throw Aluminum Diaphragm Driver Frequency Response 38Hz – 40kHz Signal-to-Noise Ratio ≥ 85dB (A) Bluetooth Version Bluetooth 5.0 Bluetooth Codec Qualcomm® aptX™ HD Wireless Speaker Link Proprietary 5.8GHz wireless connection between speakers Supported Hi-Res Audio Hi-Res Audio Certified, up to 24-bit/192kHz Digital Processing XMOS XU216 Digital Signal Processor Audio Inputs Balanced XLR, Optical, Coaxial, USB Type-B, Line In, Bluetooth Input Sensitivity (USB) 400 ± 50mFFs Input Sensitivity (Optical) 400 ± 50mFFs Input Sensitivity (Coaxial) 400 ± 50mFFs Input Sensitivity (Bluetooth) 450 ± 50mFFs Input Sensitivity (Balanced XLR) 1000 ± 50mV Input Sensitivity (Line In) 600 ± 50mV ADC Capability Up to 24-bit/192kHz DSP Capability Up to 24-bit/192kHz DIX Capability Up to 24-bit/216kHz DAC Capability Up to 32-bit/384kHz XMOS Processing Power Up to 2,000 MIPS Edifier S3000MKII Audiophile Active (Powered) Wireless Speakers: $799.99 (Sold by Edifier US, Shipped by Amazon US) If you do not have the kind of budget to spend on the S3000MKII, you can also check out the Edifier R1280Ts which is right now on sale at just $114 (its lowest price in a very long time). • Ignoring the fact that this "colony" kicked the empire of King George's arse during those early years... You are confusing the First Industrial Revolution (which was clearly pulled out of some butt-hurt Brit historian's arse after the fact) with the Second Industrial Revolution (aka now called the Technological Revolution, undoubtedly by that same butt-hurt Brit), which transitioned the world from the UK/UPS Empire to the USA as the world's only superpower. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_Revolution I hope you realize that I am having big fun here.
