I mean with orca I want to get it going if I break the system then so be it as I said it my secondary one that I use to play around with .

can someone please tell me how to edit it with orca I mean which table and command to use

you CANT, and there is no "if" it breaks your system

it's pretty much guaranteed that if you managed to force it to install it WOULD break the system

i can't understand on why you insist on forcing this to install. there's nothing to learn when the outcome is a given

not to be rude but what do you care if I break my system or not .

If you don't know just admit it rather than acting like you know but u wont say. There is not shame in not knowing.

This is a forum where people ask questions and try to get answers not just "you will break your system".

I want to try so let me.

if you know the answer please give it to me otherwise if you don't know or just don't wish to help better you don't reply at all.

for the record I have tried 2009 and it installs and works fine that did not break anything so why would 2007. its just software.

so please either give me the answer I am looking for or don't bother replying.

Especially in the realm of antivirus software, there are certain APIs (like on the kernel level) that work perfectly fine in one OS but then are depreciated, heavily modified, or even removed in the next one.

It's been, what, 5 years since 2007, and two new versions of Windows have been launched in that time (which is enough time for a feature to be depreciated and then removed). It's almost like asking why I can't run Windows Internet Explorer 10 on OSX; from the software's point of view it might as well be running on a ternary system :p

It's just that some (many) of the people here feel it's a waste of time to try installing an unsupported piece of software on an OS that's been pretty much completely reworked since its release, especially if you have easy access to a supported version of the software. Is there a reason you want to do this, or just for curiosity?

and since you requested some kind of guidance, a quick search brought up: http://www.microsoft...07-t165466.html

Why would you use an outdated software with an outdated scan engine that would have problems detecting any new viruses or malware out there? Even if you could install it, you should not trust it any more than you running without protection. think of it this way, would you take expired meds or eat food that expired 5 years ago?

I personally would not try to do this. There is no reason for this. If you were trying to run a specific database program from 98 that they stopped making that year it would be one thing. But trying to get a security app to work when they have updated it and have many current ones it really makes no sense to do anything other than run a current one.

If you ask a stupid question, people are going to point it out. Don't try and hide behind the "I'm just asking what do you care".. Cause most people that say that really mean is I just wanna do it, and then I'm gonna be back in a month bitching because my computer is unstable and not working right.

If you want to break your computer, delete the System32 folder.. other than that, most have no interest in helping you doing something that is stupid.. you wanna be able to do it, figure it out yourself, since you keep saying that this is about You just being able to do it..

there is no answer. you're trying to jam a square object into a round hole. there's literally no point

What type of file is the Norton installation file?

As far as I'm aware, Windows Installer does not support prerequisites in a "proper" manner, and the only way to embed prerequisites into an MSI would be to store them in a Binary table. That's just storing them in there; running them requires a Custom Action and other stuff. For that reason, among others, people usually opt for using a bootstrapper (often in the form of an EXE file), which first runs the prerequisite installations and then runs the main product installation. It seems you have got hold of an MSI, so I'm wondering, was this MSI extracted from an initial EXE file, or is the whole installation process for the 2007 version of Norton contained in an MSI file? The answer to this question is important because if the MSI file is extracted from an EXE file, the prerequisites and the logic for running them probably isn't in the MSI file.

u are right it it is off an iso that I extracted which has an exe and then other setup folder with a setup msi file it must be the setup exe that I have to edit but orca will not open it as it is not an msi file.

the only thing I have to bypass is Microsoft installer check but that must be in the exe and I cant get into it. is there a way?

have you tried setting the compatibility settings to Win7/XP? If that doesn't work, then I'd have to assume that it's a problem unrelated to the windows version.

On top of that, are you editing the MSI file and then launching it from the EXE, or are you just launching the MSI directly? the EXE could be unpackaging some important stuff that it needs.

If it really does work flawlessly in Win7, then you might be able to code up some kind of wrapper that will tell the exe that it's running in 7.

But even if that works (and I know you don't want to hear this) there is a near 100% chance that (best case) it's either not going to work, or (worst case) it's going to completely screw up your computer at the kernel level.

It really does work flawlessly on win7 and you are right am trying to edit the msi file and then launching it from exe but it doesnt work its the exe i need to edit. What sort of wrapper to you suggest and which program would u believe could edit the exe in this manner. Is it also possible to delete that exe and make a new one if the wrapper doesnt work

Are you attempting to launch the .msi on it's own, or via a setup.exe?

It will not allow me to launch msi by itself it says it must be launched from exe unless there is something i can edit in msi so it does not require exe

that might be something to look around for in Orca. a quick way to do this (if I remember correctly) would be to take the exact error message it gives you and then search for it in Orca (and if that doesn't come up with anything, make your search less and less specific, like start with "Error 29318: You Must Install from the Setup.exe File" then try just "Error 29318" and then just "29318"). Do you think you could somehow upload the msi file for us to take a look, or is it paid-for software?

I tried uploading the files with no success. I compressed them as rar file size 1.79mb and it would not allow me to upload so then I tried changing the extension to bmp and uploaded files separately so there are 2 files one msi and one exe and the upload worked.

Once you download them please change extension back to rar and then extract the files from each one.

There should be an exe file and an msi file also.

Any advice on how to remove or bypass the installer check would be great.

Just so you know when I was installing it on windows 7 ultimate x64 it was in compatibility mode for vista and yes I was running it as administrator

thnx again :)

p.s. The error is right at the beginning it says the following

Setup cannot be installed because there was a problem authenticating your Microsoft Windows Installer

    • Why is it that some people think we have a tinfoil hat mentality, as you put it, just because we don't want AI on our devices? As for MS or any other company looking at everything, it seems to be the thing these days that companies want to know all about us. Can't even go shopping these days without being asked if you have some sort of card that tell them what you are buying and who you are.
    • Until the employer looks right though the AI created letter and notice it is AI created. You will be surprised how many can tell, there is something about an AI created letter that stands out to some people.
    • Snapchat brings new features, including auto-saving for public Stories by David Uzondu Snapchat, which recently expanded to watchOS after a decade, is rolling out new tools for its creators. The company says people are watching more content than ever, so these updates are meant to help creators get more out of that attention. The new features focus on a few key areas: making video editing less of a hassle, showing who is actually watching, and saving posts that used to vanish forever. Video editing on the platform has always been a huge problem. The tools are fine for quick clips, but they get messy if you try to do anything more complex. A new Timeline Editor for creators in the US is coming "soon" to fix this. It shows your video clips in a simple timeline, letting you cut and move parts around without wanting to pull your hair out. You can still add all the usual Lenses and music on top of these edits. For even quicker edits, a "Create a Video" template is now available globally for iOS users. The idea is simple: you look through your saved Memories, pick a handful of photos or videos, and then choose a song from the app's library. After you select a template, Snapchat mashes it all together into a single compilation video for you. But making videos is only part of the job. To help people see if anyone is paying attention, new insights are also available. These stats give a much better idea of how an audience behaves. Instead of just one giant view number, creators can now track "Returning Viewers." This counts how many people watched their content at least 12 times in the last month. Other metrics include the "Spotlight Average View Rate," showing what percentage of a video people finished. You can also see "Views by Traffic Sources," which tells you if people found you from the Discover page, search, or their own feed. Finally, there is a new "Auto-Save Stories to Public Profiles" feature. For years, the whole point of a Snapchat Story was that it was temporary. This new option, which is rolling out to creators globally, automatically saves public Stories to a creator's profile. Snapchat notes that the new feature "helps creators build a lasting collection of their best moments, giving fans a deeper look into their creative journey and making it easier to keep content alive, accessible, and meaningful over time."
    • I did not think it could be removed, all it does is remove the icon, co-pilot is still there as far as I know. Also don't forget the other apps it is in. What is needed is a simple thing to click to remove co-pilot and any AI rubbish from the computer, just like I can on my Mac.
    • Report: Major Siri AI upgrade may arrive with iOS 26.4, delayed to spring 2026 by Sagar Naresh Bhavsar Apple Intelligence, the company's suite of artificial intelligence features, has been nothing short of a headache and an embarrassment. While most Apple Intelligence features were released on time, they still lag far behind the likes of Samsung's Galaxy AI. Also, the big Siri AI upgrade, that was announced during the WWDC 2024 event, is still nowhere to be seen. The company has been trying to cover up the delay by releasing a bunch of small features. During this year's WWDC event, although Siri wasn't mentioned explicitly, Apple's software engineering chief Craig Federighi confirmed that Apple is still working on the Siri upgrade, and it is delayed till 2026. Now, a reliable source has purportedly hinted at when we can expect Apple to release the Siri AI upgrades. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, sources familiar with the matter suggest that Apple is now aiming for iOS 26.4 to launch the big Siri upgrade. Notably, the delays have reportedly been caused by technical challenges and internal disagreements. The upcoming Siri upgrade will make Apple's assistant much smarter and more helpful by using Apple's in-house AI. Siri will be able to understand what's happening on your iPhone's screen and use your data to provide useful responses. The new powers would also enable Siri to perform multi-step tasks and offer more contextual outputs. Originally, the Siri upgrade was expected to launch with the iPhone 16 series. However, it was pushed to spring 2025, and then to May with iOS 18.5. Obviously, none of the that happened, and based on the new information, iOS 26.4 is what rumors are hinting to. This means that the Siri upgrade could launch, possibly in March 2026. Sources claim that Apple had issues combining Siri's older system with the new AI-based system, leading to consistent bugs and glitches. The delay in Siri upgrade also forced Apple to postpone the home hub that was slated to launch in March this year. Vision Pro headset creator Mike Rockwell with Apple's software engineering chief Craig Federighi are leading the charge for Siri LLM, the internal name for the big Siri upgrade. The report also adds that Apple is also working on a chatbot-like app, dubbed as "Knowledge." This project is being led by Robby Walker. But details about it remain scarce.
