Hello everybody, I have been a lurker on neowin for 5 years and finally decided to give in and join. I am a tech enthusiast with my figures dipped in almost all* ecosystems (Windows, Mac, Android, Windows Phone and even bada!). Hope to have fun and not get banned after my first post again!

Let me explain the 'terrible start' part:

I created an account last night with the name BitterPlutonium and left my 'hello all' post which said the same thing the first paragraph of this post tries to say. When I tried logging in this morning, I couldn't. I was greeted with the following code:

[#1000B] You are not allowed to visit this community.

It took me some time to figure out that I could have been banned with a run of just 1 post  .I think this happened because I linked my blog in my signature. I guess this violated some forum rule and thus I was blocked/banned. But a ban without a warning seems a bit too harsh. If it was the link to my blog which got me banned, I would have taken it down, if told. Anyway, I am here again!

:D

You aren't allowed to create multiple accounts if you get banned, I don't expect this account will last long either.

But it was an innocent mistake. I still don't know for sure what I was banned for. Its just my guess that it was my blog's link in my signature. Had I known that its against the forum rules, I would have never put it there.I don't think that is an offence serious enough to ban me from neowin for life!

I'm not sure if that error means you were banned. I suspect it may just be a cookie/session error.

If you get banned you'd get more than that. You'd also get an email.

I got no mail and my thread was gone + the error message. So I am assuming I was banned. I just hope it was a cookie/session error or some other kind of error.

Mistake or not, if you are banned you are banned.

That's for the moderators to decide, not you.

Welcome to Neowin MassiveNeutron. Try the contact page at https://www.neowin.net/contact/ if you have any problems, I got help almost instantly when I had problems logging in one time.

Oh no! This isn't a fascist country. I am sure the neowin mods are much more reasonable. :)

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
